What is the Blaze? Beyond WWWH and HOB, it is the most sought after meaning in the Chase. But instead of throw out ideas of what it could be, let us use Forrest's own words...to say what it is not.
Posted 5-28-2014: Is the Blaze one single object? - Scout Around. Forrest: In a word- Yes. IN A WORD means to sum it up briefly without explanation. There is something that begs to be asked.... why would he need to ever be in a position to "explain" it?? Anyway, with the "in short" answer... we can tell that the blaze is not a grouping of rocks on the ground pointing.
Posted 6-26-2014: Can the blaze be pre-determined by the poem or can it only be determined at the search area? Becky. Forrest: Becky, you are a rascal to ask that question and I have been sitting here for about fifteen minutes trying to decide what to say. Well, it has been thirty minutes now and I think I'll pass on the question. Sorry. f Why oh why was this so hard for him to answer? Do you need the book to help? Google maps? It seems that the only two choices left Bubba only with a choice to explain how you really determine the blaze, and he felt it would say too much maybe?
Posted 6-26-2014: Has anyone seen or mentioned the blaze to you? - Stephanie Forrest: Thanks Stephanie for the questions. I have read them several times very carefully. They appear subtle on the surface but they aren't. A yes or no to either question would give too much away, so I'll pass. f (shortened for space) So what was it about that question? Could it be no one had mentioned it to him, yet they had actually seen the blaze? So, could the blaze be something people see yet do not realize they are looking AT the blaze? hrmmm.
Posted 6-30-2014: Hi Forrest, I would like to know if the blaze can be found during the day without a flashlight. Thanks, Ron. Forrest: Perhaps your question is wrought with trickiness Ron. Are you really asking if the blaze could be in a cave where it is dark during the day, thus the need of a flashlight? If there is no subterfuge intended in your question then I would say yes.f So... the blaze is not in a cave, mine or tunnel or any other place of which is too dark to see during daylight.
Posted 4-29-2016: Mr. Fenn, Which direction does the Blaze face? North, South, East, or West? Curious. Foxy Forrest: I didn't take a radial off of the blaze Foxy. I'm thinking it may not be any of those directions. f This is a very telling answer. However in the past I've seen people try to pick it apart to make their marking on a tree fit. They come back with... Well my marking faces the NorthEast, so that's none of the direction choices given! To that I would say...isn't it Forrest himself who said North direction started at 271 degrees? If we are to assume the four cardinal directions do not take place with the blaze then this rules out a host of objects...
Marking on a tree.
Petroglyph(or other marking)on the side of a cliff or rock face.
Waterfall (as it will always flow and face in a direction)
I could see this as maybe a flat white rock on the ground or a rock on the ground with a marking on the top of it which is facing up. Or perhaps the blaze is sunlight shining down? What's your thoughts?
Posted 5-13-2016: Mr Fenn: How far is the chest located from the blaze? Casey Forrest: Casey, I did not take the measurement, but logic tells me that if you don't know where the blaze is, it really doesn't matter. If you can find the blaze though, the answer to your question will be obvious. Does that help? f So once again this looks at a flat rock with the chest under it, or sunlight shining down onto the chest. How else could something that is truly hidden, be obvious?
After seeing all of this, the blaze is truly something to ponder. I would enjoy your thoughts on the matter.
