It's unclear from the six questions whether or not this hunt is "pay to win". Did anyone ever figure out if he gives out hints when you send him $2?

It's unclear from the six questions whether or not this hunt is "pay to win". Did anyone ever figure out if he gives out hints when you send him $2? It was never "pay to win"...his replies were ambiguous at best. Sometimes in a riddle form. But questions like "could it be located in a cemetery?" are essential to the boundaries of the game, and he wasn't so ambiguous about keeping searchers out of danger. All you people that accused him of this have RUINED it for the rest of us. You need to get facts before you start accusing. You should apologize to him. Edit: Before you get all accusatory on me, let me state I asked maybe four or five questions, all AFTER I found tag#1. Questions like the cemetery, or are there any ciphers in the game....trying to get parameters. Trying being the operative word.

Congrats on finding Tag 1!
I'm not doing this one because it's too far for me but it's a great learning lesson for me as a hunter as well as a new puzzle creator on other hunts. So I can be objective. I hope the people criticizing the Hope Chest creator will be understanding on his introducing a new thing he tried with the $2 questions. It apparently didnt work so now i guess we are back to creators not answering any private questions from hunters. Hope this doesn't sour the creator especially since he's giving away a large sum of money out of what appears to be genuine love and joy for the Treasure hunting community.

It's unclear from the six questions whether or not this hunt is "pay to win". Did anyone ever figure out if he gives out hints when you send him $2? Definitely not “pay to win” whatever that actually means. Cris and his Julie are two of the most honest, genuine people I’ve ever met in my life. I’ve had the honor of painting “The Warrior” on page 26 of the book. This hunt is definitely going to be a great challenge to all those searchers who want to face not one target, but five. Four tags and one buried casque are going to be a challenge like no other. I myself had to buy a book to register for the hunt and begin my search. I have no knowledge of any clues, hints, or nudges involved in thehopechesthunt.com But I certainly look forward to this incredible challenge. And no, I am not one of the 7 searchers that has found the first tag. You can ask me all the questions you’d like but I have zero information abut the hunt. I am just incredibly honored to have been asked by Cris to create a painting representing his Father’s memory. Good luck to all those searchers out there!

The concerns I believe searchers had with the $2 Questions were that they had potential for creating a seemingly unfair playing field - in that some searchers would have differing information than others - whether by paying for it or not.
Within any treasure hunt it is crucial that all searchers feel they are receiving the same information in the same way from the creators - no matter who they are. Most creators of hunts don't even respond to incorrect submissions, and they answer all questions publicly (no matter the subject), to keep the display of an equal playing field and integrity of the hunt. If the creator were to say it is not in a cemetery (or is), or if there were ciphers (or not), it would be felt all searchers who paid for the book should be given that information - as it would relate to the overall hunt - not just those paying extra.
I don't consider anyone was whining but offering differing opinions on the matter. It caused some to not buy the book. Which is their choice.
And it was this, from my understanding, why Cris did away with the $2 Questions. He felt the questions were becoming more of a deterrent from actually buying/joining the hunt, instead of a benefit. So he changed it. No one ever accused him of anything.
Comments are closed on the subject.

I have not been soured by any means...maybe a little disappointed that right off the bat there was mistrust or doubt but, that will always be a factor in life. Anyone that has read the book and gave it a chance knows that I have faced that more than my share. It took a lot for me to do this, emotionally. If you took the treasure hunt out of the book and just read the book for what it is and you stopped to think about the process that Julie and I went through ...well, it was a lot. Reliving everything over and over again as we wrote the book and edited it. It was day after day and evening after evening soul draining. As I was going through all that I tried to think about every aspect of the book and the hunt. One thought that came to my mind was how drained and down I'd get at times while I was treasure hunting. I remembered how happy and energized it made me when Forrest use to email me back and give me the smallest of responses. I thought...everyday people spend $2 on a candy bar, coffee, cigarettes, soft drinks and no telling what other kind of daily vices to get them through their day. Then again I knew that Forrest got overwhelmed with emails too..and I'm not retired..so I definitely didn't have time for that. I thought..man ... if I could just make people STOP........for one second .......to actually think about what they wanted to say to me that might make them second guess weather or not they should even be asking the question at all. I also thought.. wow.. if I could do what Forrest did and make people feel the way I did when he emailed me back...alive and ready to go again.... put a smile on their face or a chuckle in their gut.. now that's what it's all about. The emails that I have gotten from everyone have been absolutely wonderful. The pictures of the journeys and stories of memories made for forever are what this is all about. The $2 Question is gone for now to show everyone what this hunt is all about...and that's just good ole honest American Fun. So get out there...learn something..see places.. get some sun..make new friends and memories and find something new..about life and yourself. And if you get down email me and I'll try to do for you what Forrest did for me. Have a wonderfully Good Friday and don't forget what Easter is Really about.

I see that there is a sub board at the top of this forum home page. I am logged in, but I'm unable to access the page. It just won't load and throws an error. Any known fix?
