As a collector of games (I have thousands of them ranging from the 1850's and up), I thought I would begin sharing current board games which bring 'Search for Treasure, Mystery, and Adventure' to the game table!
If you have to be home that doesn't mean you can't be having fun looking for treasure, solving mysteries, or enjoying adventures!
The new category or segment will be called MW Game Night Ideas!

Chasing down valuable treasures is excitedly brought to the game table in the Relic Runners board game. Published by Days of Wonder, the game provides a great way to spend time together as a family, whether stranded at home or not. Relic Runners is recommended for 2-5 players and for ages 10 and up.
Each player takes on the role of a daring adventurer on a mission to collect the most victory points by the end of the game. An introductory for the player’s quest is as follows:
“The ancient relics had lain dormant in the darkest reaches of the jungle since time immemorial. Have a night of plundering fun with family and friends, and decide who will become the richest pirate of the Caribbean. In the game King’s Gold by Blue Orange game company, players compete against each other in effort to collect the most gold coins. Whoever can gather the most by obtaining the best combinations of the roll of dice wins.
King’s Gold is a dice game for 2 to 6 players, ages 8 and up. The introduction to the game offers the following scenario for players. It states:
The Caribbean islands were once a lawless cove, run by merchant marines transporting stolen treasures. When news reached the King that these pirates were amassing great riches, he ordered a cut of their loot. Now it is your turn to be a pirate, and you must try to pillage ships and other pirates along the way. How far will you go to deceive the greedy King and become the richest pirate on the coast and at sea?
The story of the game (as told in the directions) is as follows: “Your team of adventurers has been sent on a mission to excavate an ancient desert city and recover a legendary flying machine that’s rumored to be powered by the sun. Moments before arriving at your destination, an unexpected sand storm forces your helicopter to make a crash landing. Now stranded in the vast desert and exposed to an unrelenting storm, your only hope for survival is to quickly excavate the city, find the parts to the flying machine and rebuild it for the escape. If, however, any of team expires from thirst or the storm gets too intense, your whole team loses and you become permanent artifacts of the Forbidden Desert!”
Set sail to have a night of plundering fun with the 2003 Dread Pirate board game. The high quality pieces within a hefty ‘treasure chest’ (the game box) instantly makes playing this game a treat! It’s perfect for a family game night of 2-4 players, ages 8 and up.
There are various editions of the game out there. While all play the same, the signature edition is the one which is of exceptional collectability. As mentioned, the game box is a wooden Treasure Chest. The ships are die cast, the dice are wooden, the gold doubloons are metal, the jewels are glass, the bags velvet, and the map is cloth! Each piece is amazing. It sets the tone for a fun time!
Who will become the wealthiest Merchant and acquire the most Prestige in the game of Splendor? That is the question. You will invest in mines, trade valuable gemstones, and strive to develop your resources to earn visits from nobles, gaining more and more Prestige as play continues.
When a player of Splendor reaches 15 Prestige points, the round is quickly completed. The player with the most Prestige at the end of the round is declared the winner. Will it be the first person who gained 15 points or will another Merchant slip past him? You never know!
