I sent in two submissions, and I did receive a reply that they were incorrect. Here is what I sent:
I believe the Lorraine Cross is hidden at the Lych Gate at the Parish Church of St. John the Divine in Lytham. And to be a bit more specific (as I don't know how specific you want your answer) I would guess it is at the Lych gate opposite the south door of the church, in position facing the Lytham Windmill. I believe it would be hidden between the gate and the church yard wall in the dirt.
My second submission was the Lytham Windmill.

Hey everyone, I just finished reading the book and I am fascinated by this hunt so I am going to be joining in! One of the things that is weird to me is that it talks about Henry going to St John’s Church in Lytham in 1851, and I know from the previous post that someone said they thought the cross was in/on the Lichgate.
BUT I found this on the St John site “In 1897 a lych gate was erected in memory of Revd T. G. Smart, vicar of the church, who had died in the previous year.”. So it wasn’t even built at the time of Henry Pearson! Surely Douglas Pearson knew this!

I often wonder if discrepancies in text (dates and such) are clues or not.... I just am not sure....

Ameristralia,
I too found that discrepancy in my research. I wrote to Mr. Pearson about it. He congratulated me on my good research skills, and said that he uses "artistic license" throughout the book. But I have a problem with that, as you posted, how are WE to know what is a CLUE, what is a MISTAKE,and what is ARTISTIC LICENSE?
This was not the only instance of finding something such as that in his book.
I think it was a great idea for Mr. Pearson to take on the task of writing a novel of historic fiction of his family tree. But his research isn't always thorough. And trying to toss in a treasure hunt on top of all of that, I think, confuses things for those of us who are trying to find the Lorraine Cross. It just isn't a good design.
