I REALLY thought that the "Pinyon" was the slip - and I believed at one time (and might still be possible) that the chest is near a place with the NAME PINYON....
My first search along those lines was Horse Creek Draw - which close to Dubois and Dunoir...and has a "Pinyon Ct." very close by....there's also a "Pinyon Ridge" not too terribly far from this spot, along with a dead Geyser....I don't really think it's the spot anymore, but it was a reasonable theory.

Yeah - I know....but still - isn't it mainly about the comment that he said something he "wished he hadn't"? I know he followed up and said he meant pine needles or pine nuts - but it just seemed to me that he hadn't intended to use the word Pinon (I know - the tilde) - which led me to believe that the WORD was associated with the hidey spot....maybe....lol.

I know it can be said he was 'just talking or imagining a place'....however, I have trouble with that. He's very careful with words..and admires their correct usage. I feel he was 'describing the location', and upon thinking about it for the question, he used the correct words.... which would include pinyon nuts... Only later did he realize that would narrow down the location, and so retracted his statement.

Owl Creek Canyon northwest of Fort Collins, CO has a Pinyon grove that is considered unique and might be worth checking out.

There is an interesting area in MT that have Pinyon grove in a pattern shaped like a thumb print. Just like a thumb print pattern all in a wavy circle to the center. It looks cool to look at on GE. Near Swan Lake.
