The burning rainbow bridge; "Bifrost" *leads from Earth to the 'realm of gods', while to others, it may represent the Milky Way.
In addition, that 'ball of string' appears to possibly be a theory of quantum gravity, and is also thought to be an enormous landscape of possible universes. Nothing about the man or his poem appear quite as 'simple' as they were once thought to be, IMO.
