Not so much solved, but over, as the treasure wasn't found by the end date of May 26th, 1989 and supposedly given to charity. Today the solution is still debated; learn more here: Treasure: In Search of the Golden Horse

I loved that search. I think I found one of the key clues but I didn't understand it at the time. It was such an obvious clue that surely other people got it. It was the clue that deciphered to "ignore state shapes". If you had this book you will remember there were several state shapes in the pictures. What it didn't say was to ignore the state names. If you took the abbreviations of the state names you came up with cont div, an abbreviation for the continental divide. I still have a copy of the book and look at it every once in a while and it brings back pleasant memories of times long past. I don't dwell on the controversy because the journey was so fantastic. As a result of my search, my wife and I went to the least visited spot of any National Park in the United States. Very scary. Interesting anyway.
Happy searching!

That giant clue may have worked in more ways than one. Because of the Fish pulling the “R”, I took it as the initial letter in the sequence. RESTATE SHAPES AT A... then the other info because of the rabbit cards “four things..lettered” I took the RESTATE phrase as self-referral, and looked at the 4A’s in the dropcap directive. Each page with one of the 4 A’s had corresponding shapes. I think some additional interpretations may be important to unraveling this. RE: STATE SHAPES AT A is an example I like the info you pulled out “continental divide” as the most popular spot is Tennessee Pass. (Also relates to the Bacon cipher TN consisting of tn trees) I read someone write that Michael Stadther said he had solved it, but that it was too difficult. Note that this is now third-hand information...Michael may have never said that.

There will never be another puzzle like Treasure, In Search of the Golden Horse. I ran across our old video and book tonight and they brought back so many great memories. It was the first treasure hunt I ever participated in, and it hooked me for life. But, none other has ever held a candle to it.
