A possible location for this one is near or around, maybe even in, Clayton, NY.

I just started reading The Rumrunners Cache. When I got to the section titled “A Bootleggers Story”, which comprises maybe 50% of the entire story, the writing style changed. I became curious so I did a search and found that the entire story was lifted from the New Yorker magazine, Sept. 25, 1926 www.newyorker.com/magazine/1926/09/25/a-bootleggers-story-i-how-i-started So, maybe in or around New York City?

OK, serious question here. GB,do you know if that is where Thousand Island Dressing was "invented". I have never heard of a geographic location before called Thousand Island. Just wondering.

I just wrote a summary on this cache, and included the following quote by H. Charles Beil which seems to confirm the cache is hidden near Clayton New York. “If you know where this picture was taken then you’re in the general area of the Rumrunner Cache! If you get there stop at Bella’s for lunch….It’s fantastic!”Bella's is a restaurant in Clayton. I'm not sure I've identified the exact location 'around Clayton' or how to find that location from the PDF though.....

Can the cache be found with 300 inches of snow on the ground?

So does anyone have any ideas on where to start with this cache? I have read the PDF several times and it is interesting but I don't know how Clayton, NY comes into the story?

Hi, welcome to the forum. My partner (goldhunter) and I have been working on this hunt for some time now (along with several other HCB hunts). As with all of HCB’s treasure hunts, the final stage requires BOTG which in this case is a long distance away for us, although I have visited the area once. It is nice to hear you are local to the area and interested in the hunt. We believe we know the general location, so, if you are interested please PM me and we can share some ideas.

I found this quote by HCB in my folder. It was from his old forum where he was describing his visit to Clayton, NY, the antique boat museum, and boat ride around the islands.
"The hospital was even on the water and Betsy got a job offer one morning as we ate breakfast outside at a little cafe. It was right next to the administration building and we started talking to the HR person unbeknownst to us and she asked Betsy if she'd like to work here. If you find this place then you're in the right area for the cache!"
The only hospital I know that is on the water is in Alexandria Bay, and the closest outside cafe to the hospital is Captain Visger House.
