WWWH Buffalo run off the cliffs. Take the canyon down not to far, but to far to walk (means turn around and look). There is a cliff overhang below the home of Brown (the Buffalo prairie above). This is the area the little indian boy dressed has a little baby buffalo jumped down and hid under the cliff edge. There is a passage way made from a volcanic lava tube (not a cave) but formed from lava that is cold temperatures inside and water dripping from above the prairie. Flashlight and gloves are needed. Maybe even a helmet from the heavy loads of boulders displaced everywhere. Here in Flagstaff AZ I have gone to the lava tube that is a wonderland mystery. Very cool! It was dead of summer when my family went and it was very cold inside 40-50 degrees and the drips of water everywhere. The area inside kept on getting bigger and bigger enough to stand in and play around on the huge boulders. There were bats but didn't seem to mind the pp who were visiting. There is no stairs, not railings of any sort. It's all left natural. But it got me thinking about what a great place to hide a TC. There are openings holes above that produce natural light to shine through. The blaze?
Maybe this is why so many searchers pass right by it? It's just a thought. The only thing is if FF flew to the W Yellowstone airport and rented a car could he do all this in one afternoon? And elevation doesn't fit.
Forgot to add that when Miss Ford asked FF "where your eyes closed" his reply was "No Miss Ford it's my eyelids that are shut" "Not my eyes". It reminds me when FF said if he was standing where the TC was he can see and smell the pine and sagebrush and etc... What if he is describing with his eyes shut what he sees? The original place he attended to hid the treasure?

The only thing is if FF flew to the W Yellowstone airport and rented a car could he do all this in one afternoon? How do you know what airport he flew into? It could’ve been any airport. Cody, Jackson hole, big sky, etc.

Yeah, there's airports all over the place. Including little ranch landing strips or for oil or other companies, from what I've seen about in all of my solve ideas.

Maybe I am reading into this to much but Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about his character in his book when he grows up his job would be to "catch the children before they fall off the cliff."
FF book TTOTC: "After a quick vote they decided that I would be the one to catch the buffalo, so after tying one end of the rope securely to the front axle of the car, I started my stalk."
So many different interpretations.
The Buffalo again and the cable can mean the cable run?: Catcher and the Rye? Cable Car Run? Hole one, two and three named by the locals in 1920’s. The first stretch, at the parking area across from a rocky bluff, is locally called Hole Number One, and the entire stretch is called "the Barns Holes," due to the fact that stagecoaches, horses and, later, busses, were kept here for trundling people into the Park. All are gone now, but the name remains.
