The lake in the photo in this Scrapbook has been identified as Stella Lake in Nevada. Nevada is outside the four states. www.anglersatlas.com/place/269302/stellar-lake There is a lake in Montana however called Stellar Lake. Just thought it was interesting.

Here is some more information about that Scrapbook from DAL:
That photo is completely photoshopped by me. There are no hints or clues in it. I will try to recover from some nearly dead brain cells how it all came about but accuracy is a moving target and truth is just a rumor… So there may be errors in my recounting…but they are not on purpose…they are because I can’t recall the exact sequence.
I had this photo of Forrest.. I don’t remember what it originally looked like.. He asked me to float the hat above his head a few inches.. I thought that was a weird request…but who am I to question Forrest.
I cut him out of the background and found that landscape shot on the web. I believe I flipped it left to right so it would be harder to identify. I floated his hat above his head and in the original photo there was something odd in the shot…I don’t remember what…so I decided to cover it up with that strange looking pillar-stone. I sent the photo to Forrest and he was okay with it so we posted it. A day or two later he asked me to put the bear in there somewhere. I think that had something to do with a comment someone made about bears…being afraid of them…I’m sorry..I can’t remember why . So I found the bear on the web and placed him in the shot a couple of days later.
I think if you look at the dates on the comments you can tell when the bear showed up…
So..other than requesting the floating hat and requesting a bear in the shot somewhere…Forrest had no input on the layout or the specific elements..
That’s all I can squeeze out of my brain …
My question is why did Forrest ask to post a hat above his head?

Interesting to note that 'stella' is the Latin word for star, and is found in the word 'constellation.'

Maybe this is representing the elevation is high the top of the sealing and that would 10200ft is your starting point. That would be a heavy load of altitude. Makes it hard to not feel weird at 9000 ft when I camp at Big Lake, AZ. Maybe the hat is put in below of Brown. Nick named his hat Brown. Or better yet maybe the bear gets to wear the hat.

If there are no hints or clues in the photo then why would Dal want to make the location harder to identify?
The image on the cover of "OUAW" also shows ff fishing with a star in the lake/river?
When I first saw that cover I couldn't get the song "Catch a falling star" by Perry Como out of my head.

That’s all I can squeeze out of my brain …My question is why did Forrest ask to post a hat above his head? After reading this thread yesterday I had the weirdest dreams. I was in a different country near a shore line and a wall was built to keep the roaring waves from flooding the town. When the water splashed up against the wall the natural block wall which contained different shapes of natural block rocks fit perfectly in place (like a puzzle fitting together). The rocks were all different earth tone colors and beautiful to look at. I couldn't keep my eyes off of the water and wall. When the wave came to splash up against the wall hard enough it moved the whole wall high and all the block shaped rocks spread out and they floated in the air apart but no water could get passed them. It looked like it was breathing. when the wave moved back out to sea the wall would collapse back into place just the same that it was before. Also, the wall and water together made a roaring whooshing noise like a plane engine . The locals called it the Roaring Something. Like FF hat floating in the air then fitting perfectly on his head when it came down. Maybe the floating hat represents the wind blowing his hat off his head and then it returns back on his head perfectly. Or maybe we are all up on the stage and FF is tipping his hat off his head to give us the slight respect of a well job done on our exploration. We are all the players on the stage. Or the hat and the bear are the constellations of the stars. his stage. We are writing the stories for him to read. Almost like we have put a book together of our exploration like the journal or diaries of the trappers.

The floating hat and bear is all that Dal will admit to Mr. Fenn's participation. However, has anyone ever looked up the Italian word "stella?" I wonder if Dal named Stern, in SB 151 dalneitzel.com/2016/03/09/scrapbook-one-hundred-fifty-one/Stern in German is "star" That is a nice coincidence.

The star is one part of the Chase for sure. Can’t disagree with that at all.

Reminded that "constellation" contains the word "stella", (Latin for "star") as well.
