Hi Jenny: "BURIED" in the article title is probably not something Forrest would have approved, and yet there is that shovel leaning against the house behind him. I'll take the position that others have already offered: that it's a nod to the unfortunate hole-digger in the story, and not a clue about the chest.

The interesting part of this article is "He scans them for two or three key words, which he says, “has happened three times. Three people have said key words. I never heard from them again! But they haven’t found the treasure.”
How does he conclude it wasn't found from that statement? I mean, if someone provides key words and then never speaks to him again, I might conclude those key words might be linked to the solution and think something the opposite, but maybe someone can answer that.
Considering the interview was conducted in May I believe it also eliminates a lot of people from being one of the three. Those eliminated form "the Fenn 3 list": Those who had talked to him just before the interview in May (since he needs time to make that conclusion never to hear from them again) Those who provided their answer well before May and then communicated with him at anytime after that. Those who never email Mr. Fenn. Anyone who made their first communication to Mr. Fenn after May.
Also considering this statement:
"... Many searchers told me the general area in which they are looking. I didn’t read the long emails, but in most of the short ones I looked for key words that would get my attention. Several did this year and I hope my lack of an email response was not taken as a clue. .."
Those eliminated are any of the ones who received an email from Forrest Fenn.

After reading this article, I now feel very guilty about the deluge of emails I have sent him this year. Sorry Forrest

The Wolf:
"Those eliminated form "the Fenn 3 list":
1. "Those who had talked to him just before the interview in May (since he needs time to make that conclusion never to hear from them again)
I'm safe on that score.
2. "Those who provided their answer well before May and then communicated with him at anytime after that."
Ditto.
3. "Those who never email Mr. Fenn."
Also safe.
4. "Anyone who made their first communication to Mr. Fenn after May."
Safe.
5. "Also considering this statement: '... Many searchers told me the general area in which they are looking. I didn’t read the long emails, but in most of the short ones I looked for key words that would get my attention. Several did this year and I hope my lack of an email response was not taken as a clue. ..' Those eliminated are any of the ones who received an email from Forrest Fenn."
Safe. I have never received an email from Forrest or a communication from him in any way.

Well, I just hope I had one key word right. I'd be hot, and that's better than being cold. Besides, there are plenty of things I haven't mentioned to him. But on the other hand, how likely is it that a person can have only one key thing, and not mention a second, if they are on the right track? I am concerned. I may be a little crazy, and that's not a new thought for me.
“Cash-deal? I don’t understand that word.” I guess speculation that Forrest would buy the treasure for a lump sum, or maybe that special item for $5 million, is not in the plans. lol
The other thing, though, is that whoever gave Forrest that bellyache should be feeling that they are pretty much alone in the lead. Unless they gave up.

In this context then, several is defined as 3.

That is an interesting prop..... personally I feel it could be 'buried'....as in hidden under something and not just left in the open. Will a shovel be needed? I don't think so...however, it gets me to wonder. Forrest knew a shovel was there for the picture..... and yes, it could be just a nod to the hole digger. What if not though..... lol

Ok, I have been thinking about this for awhile and now with this article it is a little more relevant. Remember the Dizzy Dean story, the one rumoured to be added to the OUAW received addition. The interesting quote from that story is “Think you could find a couple of cold ones somewhere?” Looking at this from a riddle solving perspective (word play) what is a couple of cold ones? Answer: "cold shoulders" So Mr. Fenn was given the "cold shoulder" after the searcher wrote to him with the few key words. Coincidence? Now consider the "gut feeling" that gut is right between the shoulders. Something to think about...
