If you convert 5000 feet to meters you get 1524 meters. If you change meters to millimeters keeping the 1524 as the number. 1524 mm equals 5 feet. The 1524mm is one of the measurements used for the distance between railroad track rails. This particular distance is called the Broad Gauge.
Is this just another one of those coincidences in the poem and meaning something or just another rabbit hole that gets you sidetracked?

IMO, another rabbit hole. I have had many similar rabbit holes.
However, the thinking is good and keeps our brains going. And remember Forrest's quote about conversions and codes - will not assist anyone to the treasure but offered as positive solutions (paraphrased)…. a tricky quote if you think more into it than what he stated. If you convert feet to meters, you are still the same distance away.
I would not dismiss your line of thought, and continue thinking about other lines and tracks.
