JohnEdo: I don't know how to attach pictures here (other than post web links). Wouldn't it be easier to just buy the book? It's not expensive. I have all 4 of his memoir books, and am considering getting Tepee Smoke and 17 Dollars a Square Inch.

That 109 comes from the picture of the treasure chest in the front of "The Thrill Of The Chase". It's hidden along the edge. That picture is laid on top of a slightly larger old fashioned Kodak negative so that it's edges stuck out around the picture. A very early version of Kodak film. Along the edges of those negatives they had some identification words and a the number. OH! (a poster) had to blow it up and reverse image it, I think, to get the number 109. It was OH! who placed it on his own map.
I like OH!, he has very interesting ideas and puts a lot of work into them. But he's empty handed just like the rest of us, lol. (Errr, sadly for him.)

Thanks goldwatch. I had read about kennedy on wikipedia being in charge of his ship the PT 109 that was split in half, and thought i had a connection as forrest has talked about his better half, and the liberty bell which is on back of the bicentennial half. But thats 1.50 and I need 2 halves to make a whole!

But thats 1.50 and I need 2 halves to make a whole! John, I've been thinking all this time how to reply. I don't want to give anything away, but you are onto something there. I hadn't spent time delving into the deeper aspects of "Jackie Kennedy - a rare lady" (TFTW), but I can see that you get the unspoken thing that jumped out at me, too. You've also made a connection that I didn't have until now, but I can verify with an entirely different thing..."connections of hints." If we keep looking, I'm sure we'll find more "connections" and eventually figure it out. Something else, the last line of this chapter says: "...maybe one of my heirs, a hundred years from now, will sip one last goblet of Brandy." We've all noticed that Forrest keeps giving sips to visitors, with a seemingly unending supply from that last "full inch" in the bottomless bottle. Forrest must have a supply in his wine cellar. And I wonder if there's a hint in there as well. Another thing, and I just thought to look into this, is about the dates on the Brandy bottle and the letter. In the story Forrest tells us that she had sent him a book by Georg Catlin "a few weeks later." I did the math, and it was 32 weeks and six days later, including the first day on the bottle. That was a Saturday. The end date fell on a Thursday. That left a Friday between the start day (Saturday) and the end day (Thursday). JFK was killed on Friday, Nov. 22, 1963.

[br Gold- thanks for reply! I've looked at line: just heavy loads and water high as 2 items in one. A load is a yoke and water high is waves. What has a yoke and waves? A bell! Just at start of line makes it a just bell. Or liberty bell! It is on the back of the kennedy half dollar in the top of independencece hall. Something else strange in poem happens at this point where 3 lines cross and there is an obvious balance formed and number 109 is obvious for location, but i haven't seen anyone with similiar location for it.

The bicentennial dollar has the Liberty Bell on it, superimposed over the moon. There's your extra half dollar. Do you have the books? This stuff is more fun than a barrel full of pirate monkeys. lol From TTOTC, page 137 in the chapter on making bells, on one of them Forrest inscribed: "If you should ever think of me, a thousand years from now, please ring my bell so I will know."

I have the original magazine of JFK report of that awful day. I will check it out. Pg. 109. One of my antique collections.

I was in the 5th grade, and we were in recess, playing in the parking lot between the church and the school. A guy and his girlfriend driving in a top down convertible quickly wheeled in. They were laughing and celebrating and yelling "Kennedy's dead!" A group of us confronted them. Their argument was based on politics. Ours was: "A man died." "He was elected and wouldn't have been there forever." "What happens to our country now?" And finally "I hope people like you don't take over." In the end, I think it sunk in. They quieted down and looked much more thoughtful. Then they left, slowly, and seemingly in deep conversation between themselves. It didn't occur to me until just now, you know, that whole thing about "Are you smarter than a 5th grader."

And they weren't about money, they were about defense. The Soviet backed North Vietnamese attacked the South, and do I need to remind you of 9-11?
