MW Q/A review involving the first clue. We are told the first clue needs identified before all else. How do you think this is done?

. Good morning, Jenny. Seemd to me, one only needs the poem to identify enough about the first clue to continue with a solve. The poem itself should be able to confirm the clue, but it may be harder, and take more steps, to confirm than most searchers would suspect. I think most searchers stumble because they expect to immediately be able to connect the clue to a place on a map, and then proceed to the next clue. I say, take the clue and proceed... marry it to a map after you have more of a solve.( this comment relates to what i belive is one of the tricks that forrest used in designing the puzzle ).

We are told there are many places north of Santa Fe WWWH..... so it seems by that line alone we can't identify the 'correct' one. Like you said, proceed, and maybe only when 'the big picture' given by the entire poem is seen, can the location for the first clue be known-- and others as well.

Late Thursday night, I started with the next to the last line in the poem using an approach that is way out of the box. -If you are brave and in the wood- Using wood meaning chord (as in music) and brave as part of the key the chord is played in. Need help here (never learned to read music or play an instrument) not having any knowledge of either (chords, keys, notes and instruments). I started with G-Sharp Major. The instrument used is what I am working on now. Bass and piano are mostly my focus with the list growing with every click finding out more about the different types of each. My starting at the bottom of the poem is related to other principles I'm currently using for this solve. The G-Sharp Major is my basis (clue to use) for line 5 WWWH and the following lines. Using music in one form or another to help figure out the map. Music is something we all can relate to, even the redneck in me. To bad for me, all my friends tell me that I'm tone death.

The first clue in my solve is the first line of the poem. I alone in there = one eye in there. If you locate the eye, "there" will take shape and you'll know where to begin WWWH.

Thanks, John. I remember seeing your post and enjoyed it. I think we're on the same trail, just different states and geographies. No TC for me either...yet.

I was digging in a rabbit hole I had no business getting in. Astree's post in this thread woke me up AGAIN and got me back to the basics. THANKS MUCH... Although, the great thing about this poem and my "quest" for knowledge about the Rockies and the wealth that it has to offer. All the trips into the holes has opened my eyes to what awaits me on my next vacation. Finding the tc is playing second row (tenor sax) in my symphony. Exploring the Rockies is first row (cello) for me now.
