No, I don't think you need anything more than being able to read. Don't even need writing, if you can make notes using pictures. lol

Buckeye - drawing pictures on a notepad is a good idea. Did you ever play "Pictionary?"

Buckeye - drawing pictures on a notepad is a good idea. Did you ever play "Pictionary?" Not that I recall. But I think that would be pretty cool. What I might have drawn in days gone by I've taken screen captures of and saved. That's something to consider though, just for the coolness of it. I might sketch some scenes from my BOTG adventures, now that you bring it up. That would be some cool memories.

. There is an aspect to the education system that could be a hindrance to this type of puzzle solving. In order to perform well in the system, a person must parrot the norm, not question the dogma (this is a generalization, i know there are exceptions).
So, lateral, out-of-the-box thinking is supressed.
Taking this puzzle as an example, in the forum postings and blogs, one can find a high percentage of posts based on research (googling Forrests background, history, geology, more arcane areas). I believe this type of approach is at least in part, fostered by our education system.
In my view, a person can make much more progress just looking at the information presented (in this case, the poem), and tackling it in ways that we are not taught in school.

Or do you have to have,a good education to understand what Forrest is saying You don't need to go to college to be skilled at Googling, reading maps or using your imagination. Just ask my 12 year old daughter. I have a degree from a prestigious university and came away from that experience with no more critical thinking skills than I learned in Middle School. For me this puzzle has taken guts and stepping out of my comfort zone. Thanks to my linear path in life I lost parts of me along the way which I am now finding again for the first time in many years. This Chase has slowly taken on a new meaning and I am all the more 'educated' for it. So to answer your question Mike, a person with a poor education can ABSOLUTELY solve the poem. I am living proof...I don't understand one thing Forrest says!

There are more ways to learn than listening with our ears. We hear in so many other ways.......

Mike, it would be somewhat hypocritical (or maybe just ironic) (probably both) if solving Forrest's game required good education in the sense of succeeding in school or having completed a higher degree or whatnot.

There’s lots of different kinds of education that one acquires over a lifetime. Such is taking a dance class, choir or band learning rhythm. Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. Catechism or Sunday school. Martial arts. Any kind of sport. And so many others that I can’t even think of them right now. Each person is a multi faceted stone. Unique and beautiful in their own way.

Forrest himself has said Imagination is more important than knowlege. I don't think research alone will help solve his poem.
