Canuck, Where exactly is that plink plank and which Linda's image? The image of the broken wall that Linda posted yesterday in this thread in response to Sluggo. Click on her photo and zoom in and you will see these letters carved in the cement on the broken end of the wall(first brick that’s not the top of the wall). Then if you look in the bottom left corner of The West Ghost right next to the slab that the hot tub is on you will see these same 5 letters in the bushes. It looks like “plink” or “poink”, but definitely there in the image. It’s been driving me crazy what it meant, but then I saw Linda’s photo of the end of the wall and the answer was right there plain as day!!! It’s like staring at that crooked fence post in Grant Park, Chicago...once you see it you just know it’s the “treasure ground”!

You don’t need to even blur it Sluggo, but now that you have, the “poink” is part of that large “x” you have created in the bottom left corner of your blurred image. The “poink” would be the bottom left leg of the “x” you have created. The fact you don’t need to blur or zoom in makes it even more convincing to me. It is hidden in the grass and leaves in the bottom left corner of The West Ghost image. The “poink” in The West Ghost image reads upward on a diagonal, with the p at the lower left and the k at the upper right. In Linda’s photo of the wall it’s the exact same letters in the exact same orientation, on the first upper brick that isn’t part of the top of the wall. I wish I had the skills to just circle and post them side by side. Do you at least see it on Linda’s photo? Like I said, once you see it, it’s like looking at the crooked fence post in Chicago.
EDIT: Also take a close look at the palm tree in the top right corner of The West Ghost as well. At first I thought it read “77”, but looking more closely it’s actually “AP”.... most likely a clue for Aquatic Park!

canuck, there? Yes that’s it! Now if you go look at Linda’s photo of the end of the wall look at the first brick from the top that’s not part of the top of the wall. You will see the exact same letters and orientation in her photo. Maybe put your book next to her photo and you’ll see it’s an exact match.

Call me a skeptic but isn't that pattern on the mortar that holds the bricks together? 40 years ago it wouldn't be exposed but inside the wall/column.

Call me a skeptic but isn't that pattern on the mortar that holds the bricks together? 40 years ago it wouldn't be exposed but inside the wall/column. I suppose it would depend how long the wall has been in this condition. If the wall was in pretty much the same condition in 1980, it’s quite possible. You have to admit the letters and orientation on the wall are pretty much an exact match to the letters and orientation in The West Ghost image and that’s what is most important. Are there any good photos of this area of the wall from 40 years ago available to cross-reference? A few things to consider: that wall is a lot older than 40 years so would have had time to get to this state by 1980, the letters are on the second level so even if just that top layer were missing in 1980 it would be visible and being on NPS land they would leave the wall alone and not repair it with modern materials.

Trying to figure out how many columns/acorns there were on that side. Looking from this perspective there were 9. The one closest doesn't belong there obviously since it's not part of the wall and doesn't line up straight. It's probably the broken off one from the end of the wall placed there. tinyurl.com/qtb5cbg
