Interesting thought: What would a child say if you gave them the poem and told them to read the Look Quickly Down line?? I asked.... my 9 year old nephew said 'you look down fast'..... If we are told to then 'tarry scant', which Forrest has said that means 'get the heck out of there', it could just be that simple.... Are these merely 'instructions' and nothing more...

Hey Jenny, My idea is super simple and just very literal and refers to instructions inside the poem itself. Almost like a joke that would make a 7 year laugh because it’s a play on words. The answer may correspond to something in my search area very close to where I believe the treasure lies.
So maybe a hint? While not impossible, it would be a lot tougher to parse this out without knowing the reference ahead of time.
Just my two cents, could be way off.

I'd always associated looking quickly down, your quest to cease as spelling out the fact that whatever the blaze is , is directly above the treasure spot and therefore kind of small and localized. If the blaze were large, looking QUICKLY down might not really pinpoint the treasures location but we know from the very next line of the poem, 'your quest to cease' , it does. This also seems to get additional confirmation (blaze being smaller) by the 200 foot searchers who unknowingly walked past it.
