If we are to "bait" (bate) a painted stone, then near a beach would be consistent

I have more thoughts on these numbers and a different way to interpret the clue.
She mentions that it all started at 19 which is a reference to her age in college.
I noticed that she mentions an age in each of those chapters. Sometimes it's subtle, like "my grandfather died when I was 9." If you add up all the ages, you get 123.
I also tried figuring out how old she was in each chapter. I got three with 47, so maybe that's not it. But if you add those numbers up, you get a different sum. (Which I can't tell you because I think my dog ate the slip of paper on which I had it written down).
Then there's the question of what to do with the final number. I have no idea.
Maybe we're just meant to get a number and hold onto it for now. Maybe the final clue will be something like "Stand at Clue #7, pace Clue #5 steps at Clue #3 compass heading" or something.

You know what makes no sense to me about this clue? “But the Hollywood endgame would not come to pass until chapters more advanced.” That makes it sound like hollywood and end game are chapters at the end of the list but they’re not. Clues and berm come before; alchemy comes after. Odd.

Clues and berm come before; alchemy comes after. Odd. I thought ‘Hollywood endgame’ was referring to the place she was trying to get to, the reason she moved out to Hollywood in the first place - to save up money for it. And ‘chapters more advanced’ is the chapter where she finally gets to move there.

Maybe. So many different ways to interpret this. And none that relate to math, as far as I can see.

Of all the clues, this one is driving me crazy the most. I'm going on the assumption that you need the 284 from clue 8 to solve this one, since she mentioned math here, and 'the difference is 284' ('difference' being a math term implying subtraction) in clue 8. Also in clue 8 she says that 284 is a number we didn't know before, implying it is needed in a previous clue.
But where to go from there, I have no idea. I tried using 282192211 + 284, then translating those digits into letters (a = 1, b = 2), but nothing. I tried using that as a lat coordinate: nope. I tried doing the same math for each individual number, giving me 312 286 303 etc., then using that in a book cipher (chapter number/word or chapter number/letter) but got nowhere.
Very puzzling!

This clue doesn’t make sense to me at all. How was math involved? Actually how were numbers involved for that matter? All we needed were the chapter names, not the chapter numbers.
