Don't judge me for this next comment but..... could the blaze be an ex-girlfriend of Forrest's? He would know if she's still there or not. It's not feasible to remove her. She wouldn't face N, S, W or E etc. The thought came to me while watching the movie Jumanji last night with my kids. In the movie part of the mission was to "follow the flame" which ended up being an ex-girlfriend. I can't get away from this hunt, not even long enough to watch a movie lol.

"Is the blaze one single object?" "In a word - yes" (the object of my affection) Ok so it doesn't have to be an ex but could be something that represents the love of his life, Peggy.

I think the BLAZE is the outline of the US HILL MICA MINE in Taos County, near Vadito and Penasco, when viewed from ABOVE... it forms a white letter "F" on the landscape. This BLAZE is not the last clue, and you have to keep working to solve the rest of the poem - quickly down, quest to cease, marvel gaze, go in peace. So you do not need to go to or enter on the mine property... it's just a trailmarker that you can see from google earth... or a good map.

YOU HAVE TO BE WISE to find the BLAZE because it is not viewable when you are BOTG. You MUST find it beforehand.

You are correct IMO jakebrakes - to an extent- the blaze is ‘invisible ‘ to someone on the ground, but I believe, it is the red line on a map, (not on google earth) but a good topographic map that shows us the ‘ Wilderness Boundary’. (It could be moved but impractical to do so ) It is a delineation where many national forests are located and is an important line for natural habitats to survive. That in my opinion of what the blaze is. But you need to find out where this particular one is before you can finish the search. If you can find the blaze you can find the treasure = if you work out ‘ how’ to find the blaze, you can work out the rest of the poem. A x

I believe the blaze is a black pacman/pie (with a piece missing) symbol painted with tar on top of a big rock. That's why Mr. Fenn talks about pies. That's why it's tarry. That's why it can be moved but not feasible to try. That's why it doesn't face any of the four directions- it faces up. That's why the marble ring illustration in one of the books looks like a pacman.

Well of course I am going to say that the blaze is a circle, a circle does not face N, S, E or West it is a 360 degree blaze, that is why Forrest said it did not face any of those. Forrest reveals what the blaze is on Page 106 of his book, it is a cistern. It has been there all the time waiting for the puzzle system to lead you to it, for then, and only then would you see why it was in his book and linked to "ideas and opportunities" he hid the blaze in plain sight in his book. The drawings of the boys playing marbles shows a triangle within a circle. There are 2 boys on the header page and 4 in the main drawing, 2 and 4 or 24 relating to 'Omega'
The T.S. Eliot quote refers to it being circular a circular puzzle.

Annie,
I like your thought process of using a map feature as the BLAZE... something that cannot be seen BOTG. I finally came up with something like that for my "look quickly down" because FF kept saying to make the lines cross at the right spot. So I used longitude lines. Same concept.
And Indigo, anything lying flat on the ground would satisfy the requirement of not facing in any direction, because it "faces" up...
Cheers

I figured the blaze was something that should not only stand out, but be something that once you saw it, you'd know it had some connection to Forrest. "Look quickly down", I believed, described what you were to look for once you arrived at a certain spot, where "quickly" meant "like lightning". Lightning referring to his horse in "Looking for Lewis and Clark", while "look and "down" simply meant "look south". Taken together, I believed Forrest was telling us to look south for something that resembled Lightning's face (like the one in the picture in TToTC). This notion was reinforced by the SB Forrest wrote about seeing "faces" in his shower tiles, as well as the SB talking about the lightning bolt striking the tree in his back yard. It also could explain his references to Thor.

Cheers Yes jakebrakes, most of my solve was cryptic, and map features - i knew that the answers were somewhere within the poem, Forrest was always telling us to go back to the poem - clue no five is Wilderness Boundary it is an anagram from the line “if you’ve Been Wise and found the blaze” but it has 3 letters missing RSR ‘preserve’ (to look after). If all the anagrams were just straight from the poem, anyone would solve them right away, that is why some have ‘missing’ letters. In the same way - “Just heavy loads and water high “ JUST means Correct, And - (use the other letters ) to make HYDROELECTRIC STATION. It is on the map not far from the Wilderness Boundary.

Boat Mountain was our blaze. If you have no “paddle” you likely still have your boat, right? Boat Mountain can not be removed, and doesn’t really face any cardinal direction. You have “found” the blaze when you put in below the hoB...per Dal...Hebgen Lake (just past the dam at the put in). Also, a boat or ship can is considered “found” if it is loaded and ready to go...not sure if that helps though??? As you go up “your creek”, the Madison tailwater, you have your Boat behind you just like ff had his loaded rubber dingy tied behind him as he fished the Madison in TFTW. Thoughts about this Blaze logic?

In my first of four BOTG, I originally had the thought that the 45th Latitude Line could/should be the blaze. As most know, it runs through YNP and as some here note...is a “map feature” that is invisible, but you would easily know where it is on your solve...with a compass...and it IS an exact point (as you cross it while following the other clues). My first BOTG was up the Gardiner River and off a dry creek that branched from it. Alas at 45.00.00 there was nothing when I looked quickly down. Anyone else have 45* as their blaze???

I don't think Dal came close to a solve, I do not see any hints to west yellowstone especially because he mentioned all the places by name and he doesn't name clues.
