Station V (March 19, p. 63)
CHATEAU DU CLOS LUCE (Cloux), AMBOISE, FRANCE. Nural Din (p. 62) sends Magnalucius on to his step-brother on March 18/19. On p. 63 (no date, but it must be March 19 from the context), Magnalucius reaches the place, not far from the palazzio -- a manor-house on the same estate, "set like a jewel overlooking a shallow and meandering river." We know his step-brother has a patron. Who was the patron? Likely Francis I of France, because Magnalucius' step-brother is none other than Leonardo da Vinci. We know that Magnalucius' step-brother (pp. 63-64) has a "...few years of age" on Magnalucius, they are both from Anchiano, and we know da Vinci was born a mere 5 years before Magnalucius in 1452. The physical description on p. 63 is reminiscent of Leonardo. Moreover, there is a illustration of him on the Introduction page (p. 9). In addition, we know Leonardo suffered from a numb arm (see description of his numb arm, p. 66; he again rubs his arm on p. 68), whether because of an injury or from a stroke that disabled his right arm. At least two of the illuminations (pp. 73 and 85) are patterned after Leonardo's art.
There is also something about a cave in the Appenines (p. 71). Leonardo actually did find a cave as a boy, and it inspired in him a desire to learn more about the mysteries of nature. If the city is Amboise, the "shallow and meandering river" must be the Loire. Leonardo died at Chateau du Clos Luce in 1519. This historical connection to Leonardo reaffirms the Quest year as 1517.
On March 22, Leonardo tells Magnalucius where to find the Longstone of Ursus (Station VII). At the end, on March 23, Leonardo asks Magnalucius to go to a great cathedral...
