Agreed, I find the Hints of Encouragement to be more cryptic than the actual clues!
But I think she did answer a question I posted on FB. I asked if the stone is retrievable with a foot or two of snow on the ground. And in her HoE she says, "...that stone is out there, waiting to be discovered, rain or shine, snow or no."
So I think that's her cryptic way of answering my question.
Fun trip today. I did not find it. But I located two multi-trunked maples that looked promising. One was a tiny squib-of-a-thing. But there's just too much snow/ice on the ground to allow checking (or even seeing) cracks. When I reached into one crack, I felt a wall of ice inside! So I think the illusive stone would pretty much be frozen in place anyway. I'm going to have to table the search until spring. I made a note of the GPS coords for those to go back to and check later. I found a great app that I use called Alpine Quest. The free version lets you set Waypoints that record your position. Very handy.
I've read her hint over many times now. There may be hidden clues in it but nothing obvious. I'm also trying to get a feel of whether the maple and crack will be on a trail or if she's going to make us go off--trail. It's a big area to just wander around off-trail, so I'm hoping the former is true.
Does anyone think it likely that the picture she posted of her in the woods is on the same actual trail as the stone? I wonder. I kept my eyes open today for any part of the trail I was on that looked like that, but didn't see anything.
