Hi All, Part of my search strategy is to write down any topic or idea that comes to mind. Yesterday, I was just jotting ideas about what the hiding spot might be like. I'm working on a solve that I am very happy with but want to make sure I avoid confirmation bias. In other words, have I made this list to fit my ideas or does the list cover the basic criteria for a hiding spot? Any comments, corrections, or additions are welcome.
The hiding spot likely meets one or more of the following criteria:
• An isolated area with no nearby towns or trails.
• A place not (frequently) susceptible to wildfires, floods, mudslides, or other natural phenomenon.
• A place not likely to be developed anytime in the foreseeable future.
• A place that is not far from an area that can be reached by car.
• A place that is legally accessible.
Summary: The area is isolated, yet is not far from a road. It may be special to Forrest, but is not so beautiful that development is a threat. The treasure can get wet, but is not under water. The area is likely flat and not heavily forested and thus not in danger of landslides or fires. It is likely an abandoned area no longer used and not visited by maintenance or research crews. The site is distinctive and can be found by someone who knows where to look.

I feel that is a great summary......ultimately, the hiding spot must be a place where Forrest feels confident his body can be left alone and return to the soil. Mr. Fenn,
Yogi Berra was asked by his wife, “Yogi, if you die before me where do you want to be buried? Montclair, New York or St. Louis?” He is known to have answered, “surprise me”. So if Peggy comes up to you and asks, “Forrest, if you die before me where do you want to be buried?” What would your answer be?” ~Joe
Joe, thanks for the question. I have no desire to be buried in a box. It’s too dark and cold for me, and too lasting. I would rather go into the silent mountains on a warm sunny day, sit under a tree where the air is fresh and the smell of nature is all around, and let my body slowly decay into the soil. What can be better than that? fmysteriouswritings.com/featured-question-with-forrest-lifes-ending-peace/Question posted 6/14/2014:
“Are you willing to say whether the place of the treasure chest is the same as the one where you had previously plotted to have your bones rest forever?”~anonymous
Dear Anon, I feel somewhat disadvantaged since you chose to not identify yourself but I will answer your question anyway. Yes it is. fmysteriouswritings.com/questions-with-forrest-fenn-and-the-thrill-of-the-chase/questions-with-fenn-archive-1/

it's in a place people wouldn't normally go. people go everywhere. I don't get why forrest thinks people wouldn't go to this location.

Definitely an intriguing question. Where "people" wouldn't normally go, so is it where animals go, or is it a place a person normally wouldn't go like an indian reservation or some other place we need to be granted access or have some kind of special permission or permit...
Maybe the key word is a password to access such a place.

4Q) I think I read (but, correct me if I am mistaken), that although you would love the treasure to be found, the discovery of the chest would end the exciting mystery and adventure for those actively seeking, and this would be missed by you. Would you rather the treasure stay hidden for many more years, or are you in hopes that the chest will be found soon? I am ambivalent about the treasure being found. When it is discovered I hope it is by some deserving person who is emotionally involved and has been rewarded by the other mountain thrills that come with the chase. If it is not found for several hundred years that would be fine with me. One thing is certain, when a person discovers that beautiful bronze chest and opens it for the first time and sees the bracelet with hundreds of rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds, and the 265 gold coins and hundreds of placer nuggets, he will be in awe. It is easy for me to predict the expression on his their face. mysteriouswritings.com/six-questions-with-forrest-fenn-author-of-the-thrill-of-the-chase/

Another thing to consider: "I know where the treasure is hidden, but if I were blind even I couldn’t go to that spot." Goldi,
Given that blind people are capable of scaling Mount Everest, hiking, flying, skydiving, abseiling, caving, diving etc, how does that comment help?

I don’t know how it helps and I also can’t understand why Forrest said it. However, since he said it we should consider it when looking for his possible hiding spot. There must be some sort of visual cue or marker on location, which may be important for searchers to remember when formulating a solve.
