As a writer, I admire the different way Forrest thinks.....and then writes. He has a special and unique style. In no certain order, I just wanted to create a reference thread for some of these creative and fun phrases I come across. Please feel free to add ones which make you smile (and reason why).......I will do so over time as I come upon them..........I believe one of the ways to understand the poem better is to understand Forrest/the writer more--- and how he thinks. "...Other times I review the things I did, but shouldn’t have done, like forget to feed the ducks."
Reason I find it interesting: Forrest mentions things he did, but then says something he didn't do in actuality. This is creative. mysteriouswritings.com/featured-question-with-forrest-fenn-and-the-thrill-of-the-chase-treasure-hunt-contrary/

One of the earliest examples I noticed was when he said he did not want to broaden the clues by pointing out., Where “broad” and “point” are opposing ideas. I believe the poem also has at least one instance and it is used when recognizing the clue

I love this twist to the common answer.......
How do you know where the edge is if you don’t go out there and look? I never wanted to go down the center line. I wanted to bounce off the curbs and I think I’ve done that. I got caught a few times, but, I think if I had my life to do over………… I’d change nearly everything. Why do the same thing over and over again? You know? You read in these different magazines, they ask a different question, “What would you change in your life?” “I wouldn’t change anything, everything is perfect.” I think that’s such an idiot thing to say, I think. Why do the same thing over again when you can…nothing wrong with slamming a door and starting out new again.

On a second look into Forrest mind it's obvious that the loonie's he made are wearing straight jackets as a loonie should, and the old bat Mrs.Ford. Rustie and her friend must of got smashed with Forrest and one of them lost their top. I tried to find a hint of riches and couldn't. But insight I did find.

Creative Marketing: dalneitzel.com/2015/11/02/forrest-gets-mail-9/Forrest has shared: We don’t have sagebrush here. Is it a nice smell or a strange smell? Does it smell like the herb? Sagebrush has a nice aroma that lasts a long time if you take a cutting home and let it dry. I used to put twigs in letters to clients hoping the smell will remind them, and lure them back to my art gallery.

If you are wise and in the wood...

There's another style of Forrest that I see often in his writing...... He seems to like to contradict himself.... for instance...
In the Preface of Too Far To Walk, he writes...
'.... and I feel such an urgency to get this book to the printer that I've left out a few stories I wanted to tell.
One was about helping my parents.....(he continues to tell a bit about it)
Nor is there time to write the story about my mom.....(he continues to tell it)
I wanted to write about being in Germany....(he continues to write about it)
....and a few more...
And while they might not include as much as he wanted...he didn't leave them out, as he said in the sentence before he began telling the stories....

I think he's a campfire guy. He's had a long fruitful life and has learned, and likes, telling stories about his life to people.

Forrest is very literal....for instance...when he says...
"My eyes were open, it's my eyelids that were closed"
