To me it sounds past tense unlike stanza 2 being the present. If stanza 1 is hinting at something that is supposed to give us a place to be at to start our search it sounds like the main two hints are (IN THERE and NEW AND OLD) There are two ways I read it. Either the treasure is new and the place is old or the place is new and the treasure is old. I get this because he is hinting at the place he hid it. If I am right and the poem is true to it's hints and a true hint to something shouldn't lead us a stray but lead us to the treasure then new or old could only be by dates a place was established either the first or the last depending on which is new or old, The place or the treasure. To go in there sounds like a park because once you're in the Rocky mountains driving or walking you're already in them and been in there the whole time. He is being specific that he went in a park where he parked and it's probably either the first park to be established or the last park to be established. I think the key is in the dates. Are there any websites that list them or is it a one at a time lookup? Anyone know? Thanks.

I think ALONE is important too Yes I agree. Do you know if Forrest once said something like all the periods And commas in the poem may not be in the right places?

hasn't he said he doesn't follow or worry about rules That's another thing that reminds me of private road signs that I mentioned in a different post.
