These are the problems I have with the poem being a contract:
1.) Consideration - 'Consideration is when both parties agree to provide something of value in exchange for a benefit. Consideration can be something like a car, money, or even manual labor. It has to be something of actual value.' What are we giving? Is it the 30 days to go home and think? If so, where is that stated in the poem? What are we promising to Forrest in this contract? What does he want from us that is spelled out in the poem? It could be the promise to give his bracelet back, but where does it say that in the poem? What is Forrest benefitting from us in this contract?
2.) 'The parties must be legally competent. Minors and mentally impaired cannot validly contract. Additionally, the party must be of a sound mind while contracting and without the influence of drugs or alcohol.' This one doesn't need explaining. (ha ha I mean us not Forrest!)
3.) 'There must be a mutual agreement between the parties. This is also known as “the meeting of the minds,” one party must have offered an offer to another party for acceptance. For example, a signing of a contract shows that there is a mutual agreement among the parties and everyone is on the same page.' This could be in the chest, but it isn't in the poem IMO.
I see the poem as a promise of a future gift and not an enforceable contract but what do I know.
