These are the two different names that ff gave to the chest.
What links "Indulgence" to "Tarzan" ?

Someone once pointed out the use of the word “indulgence” in the opening credits of this Tarzan movie from 1935 (https://youtu.be/5_FQPUzpc6E). It’s at the 30-second mark. But I don’t think this means anything; they’re probably unrelated to each other. In the SBs FF suggested that “Indulgence” was more apropos. He said we shouldn’t even bother to try and figure out “Tarzan.” I take him at his word. It’s interesting to meditate on the concept of the original “Tarzan”—fish out of water; heir to a vast fortune; living as a savage—and connect that to FF’s life. But I can’t figure out how to connect all that back to the tc.

dalneitzel.com/2014/10/10/gold-dust-2/#comment-55511I am finding photographs and notes that had long been forgotten. They are in old external hard drives. I named the treasure chest Tarzan and then changed it to Indulgence. Please don’t ask me why because sometimes I mystify even myself. f

I don't understand why we should take ff at his word about anything when so much that he has written/said is factually incorrect.

Had Forrest ever mentioned it before?

Indulgence anagrams to "ending clue" or "clue ending". There might be a clue in the ending of Tarzan. From Wikipedia: he later experiences civilization only to reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer.

Perhaps the ending clue is in a tree, where Tarzan lived and swung. I know people don't like this possibility because a tree doesn't have permanence but there are a lot of trees in the Rockies that are very, very old (the Larch being one). It could be among the "routes" like in Masquerade.

I have wondered about this since last year when had to stay in town and work on my humans skills. I am very exciting for this summer to get a chance to go back to the mountains. There's lots of different kinds of woods and trees in the Rockies!

If a hint is hidden there, my guess is that it revolves around the name change rather than the exact words indulgence and Tarzan.
One or more of the waypoints in the poem have changed names over the years. Hence the "hints... new and old".
Also a reason why he has said you must have "the right map" rather than any map. The right map is one with the old names.
