I have recently been thinking about Forrest Fenn's answers to searcher questions.
Many answers, while technically correct, are misleading. Or to state it a better way, the answers are often misunderstood.
Might this be his way of "weeding out" some? To send them off to Toledo to play canasta, if you will?
And is he trying to extend the chase? To make those with a solid solution question themselves and go back to the poem for a few more weeks or months?
In short: What do we know of his rationale for the chase? On one hand, he has mentioned giving people hope during the last recession, which I interpret as him ultimately wanting someone to have the treasure.
On the other hand, he has mentioned that he wanted to prompt people to get outside and enjoy nature. In this case, the longer the chase, the more he has accomplished with that goal.
Has he, in any of his interviews or email answers, clearly stated that he really wants the treasure to be found? Or is he really hoping for 1000 years?

Thanks. Sounds like a little bit of both hands.

Has he, in any of his interviews or email answers, clearly stated that he really wants the treasure to be found? Or is he really hoping for 1000 years? In article above: Q) What would you like to happen if the treasure remains unfound? Forrest’s A) I think somebody’s going to find the treasure – I don’t know when, but, if nobody ever finds it, you know as the decades go on, why eventually somebody’s going to find that treasure. Q) What inspires you to keep the treasure hidden after all these years? Forrest’s A): As opposed to going back to get it? Is that what he’s trying to say. Well, when I hid the treasure I had no intention of going back and getting it. I mean, it’s where I left it…it’s going to be there for a long time until somebody finds it. I hope somebody finds it. ALSO.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQcLGRdSI38 at 1:06 he mentions being frankly surprised no one has found it, and then says, " I would hope somebody would find it...before too long." There's your answer

The treasure has not yet been found. Says Fenn, "It's difficult so it won't be found right away, but it's easy enough so that it's not impossible to find it." Fenn chuckles and says, "I want sweaty bodies out there looking for my treasure -- they just have to find the clues." www.huffpost.com/entry/over-1-million-in-buried-_b_822894

In the above quote, Forrest says he knows it's difficult......
What makes it difficult? Is it because the many locations WWWH? Is it because although a precise location is given, most likely by a Blaze, it is difficult to 'discover that Blaze', and hence the final location of the hidden chest?
Is it because there isn't any confirmation of the clues and the understanding of them is based on 'imagination' (which is limitless)....?

Someone with some pull should ask him if he wants somebody to go get it WHEN/IF they find it. I'd really hate to never know.
edit: I guess I shouldn't assume it is possible for someone to find it and not go get it. That may kill some of the thrill for that person.

It is easy to imagine FF being torn on both sides of this equation. I imagine he has good feelings both ways - find it while he is alive or find it after he passes. So,I think he is being honest expressing thoughts both ways and ambivalence.
His actions; however, make me lean toward his wanting it to be found sooner rather than later. By actions, I mean the additional clues he has provided the search community outside of the poem and TTOTC. I believe he has provided both directional and confirmational significant additional clues to help us find the treasure. I’d think he would enjoy being able to share his imaginative creative thought processes around the chase with others, and letting us see the hints he dropped right under our noses. That’s just my thinking.
So folks let’s go find it this year! Good luck to all this search season!
