I'd like to ask you all.... if the Chase ended today....what would you do?
Would you go back to your life before the Chase? (Does anyone remember what that was? lol)....
Would you focus on another Treasure Hunt? or Research another topic? Maybe something you picked up during the Chase?
Would you continue on for all the better person the Chase made or changed you?
The Chest will be found......eventually..... and it can only be by one of us..... if isn't you, what would you do?

For myself, with first thought.... I'd continue on researching 'Treasures' and sharing their stories, as I have done before, and doing now. But MW is always morphing, as I experience and grow through various challenges, so maybe it would be with a different passion.... Currently, I'm working on a few more books.....so if the Chase ended today (or the next, or the next, etc.), I would find myself with more time to finish them...... that actually is exciting to think about! Not that I'm wishing for it..... but it would be ok...

I would have to raise my black flag and sail off for my next treasure.

This has been an incredibly enriching experience. That said, one door closes another opens. I've enjoyed the challenge of this journey but change is good. My time and energy would be put to use in another capacity and I'm ready for the next chapter whatever that may be.

I never got that sucked in. I got all hyper a few years ago when I first found out about the chase. Did a BOTG after a few months of searching maps and the book. Realized how dumb I was, then put it aside. That first trip got me back out in the mountains last year. It was just for fun. But that got me to pick up the book again. COVID-19 has allowed/forced me to fill my free time at home with other things. I picked up his book again. So if not this, it would be something else.

. I d continue with non-treasure hunting activities, but also look to new treasures hunts. “The Great U.S. Treasure Hunt” and Treasuremans “new and biggest yet” hunt based out of PA (Gallows Harbor) are on my radar. Plus, I really am interested on the Fandango ending later this year.

Six months ago the average person thought currency debasement was out on the fringe of gloom and doom economics. Anybody that knew where we were in the long term credit cycle absolutely knew monetary and fiscal “stimulus” would become fire drill rampant overnight. It’s not going away. No politics here, just plain old calling what I see. Physical gold and silver are almost impossible to come by. There are lots of treasures to seek, admittedly none so promising as a man sitting in a bookstore saying I’m telling you I really hid that chest, but other treasures nonetheless.
Personally, I would seek those out. Geronimo said the richest gold mines lay hidden in the Guadalupes. Now you can’t stay overnight. Ben Sublett was real.
My search area, like a lot of rocky mountain areas, has lost gold history. I have wondered if Mr. Fenn found something and that made his spot special. I wonder if the family got the bulk of the trove, but he left a portion for us in the chest.
You have to decipher the clues to understand the poem, and you have to understand the poem to decipher the clues. What?

Go through the five stages of grief.
Denial: That picture of the chest is so clearly photoshopped. There's no way they solved this without the key word that Forrest doodled into my copy of TFTW.
Anger: Damn that Doug Preston. If he hadn't gone blabbing on about the clues in the interviews someone else wouldn't have beat me to it. I'm going to sue the snot out of him for not keeping his big mouth shut.
Depression: Can I get credit for how I've felt while being shut in for the last six weeks? Do I have to go through it again?
Bargaining: Anyone want to trade a copy of Fandango for my copy of TTOTC? No? How about a copy of The Da Vinci Code?
Acceptance: Umm... no. Who says there have to be five stages? I'm fine with four.

I would put the chest in a safety deposit box, talk to my CPA and attorney... Oh, I will be the guy who finds it!

You have to decipher the clues to understand the poem, and you have to understand the poem to decipher the clues. What? Tom - your mention of gold in the Guadalupe mountains brings back memories. Very early in my life I worked for a small, now defunct, mining company that had interests all over New Mexico. I worked underground copper mining, staking claims for uranium, and most enjoyably looking for gold in the mountains of southern NM. My boss (a retired successful rodeo cowboy) and I had a base camp and two horses and some maps. We were brought supplies every two weeks. To this day I cannot eat Spam or Vienna sausage. Our job was to collect samples from old dumps and old shafts, map it, and have the samples send to the lab for analysis. Never did find the big one they say is out there. And now, all these years later, I’m still chasing gold. When this is over, whether I find it or not, I think I will hang up the exploring boots and just focus on a heart of gold, as Neil Young would say.

The Chest will be found......eventually..... and it can only be by one of us..... if isn't you, what would you do? I would drink a case of beer over 12 hours or so.... pass out... and dream of possibilities that would never come true. The next morning, I'd wake up with the MOTHER of all hangovers. I'd lay in bed all day suffering, maybe shedding a few tears over that painful thinking. Then that afternoon I'd get up and say to myself, Alright....that door's closed. What's next?

There'll be many emotions.....
