In The Thrill of the Chase Forrest only includes 3 of the 4 Quatrains originally included in his story of My War For Me.... www.85fis.doncondra.org/Forrest%20Fenn%20Story.htmThe missing one is: There was the Door to which I found no Key; There was the Veil through which I may not see: Some little talk a while of Me and Thee There was – and then no more of Thee and Me. In the recent video on the Rubaiyat, I mentioned how the Quatrains are numbered, and could be used to offer a 'subtle hint' or possible key word (or was a rabbit hole)........ Searcher Mike Woodd commented about the missing quatrain... and I thought I should mention it here too... Why didn't Forrest include it?

Lines crossed out in Somerton man's book, lines crossed out in My War for Me. Figure out where the lines cross for the treasure.

Well it's a rabbit hole for sure. I dunno, though, Fenn was CIA, supposedly, according to a news article. The whole War for Me chapter is about unraveling a mystery, it seems. Maybe there is a connection or at least an allusion. FWIW, the missing quatrain is numbered 35 in the second edition. I think that correlates to "e" in the poem using your system.

True.... and fun/interesting.... The E is in the word Treasures.....so, using the 'word'- Forrest hid 'Treasures' from us.........

Understanding the missing quatrain is likely most important as it clues us into why "imagination is more important than knowledge"..... intuitive ability is diametrically opposed to reason, or the intellectual reasoning associated with philosophers. The poem is highlighting that from the visible world one can never fathom the secrets of the invisible, not by the aid of reason as philosophers do, nor with intuition as the Sufis believe. The intellect is part of the infinite Whole and as such it can never grasp the Whole. In the fourth line, the uncompromising answer is given: only when the veil falls, a metaphor for death, can one access the other world: no one has brought news about the other side of the veil. FitzGerald emphasizes the ephemerality of man’s existence, whereas Khayyam concentrates on the secret of eternity....so there is "time", a once again recurring theme throughout the chase; emphasis is on man’s transient nature, the fleeting time, and the inevitability of death. The missing quatrain:
There was the Door to which I found no Key; There was the Veil through which I may not see: Some little talk a while of Me and Thee There was – and then no more of Thee and Me.
I say this is the entrance to heaven. You can only enter through the straight and narrow gate. There is a door with no key.
And then talking about the veil is crossing over to the spirit world and you can’t see it because you’re still alive.
Some little talk is what we’re concerned with in this realm that we’re in. Sort of like small talk -nothing that is of the higher level of heaven. It’s hard to take the afterlife seriously when you’re in this realm.
And then once you die and go to heaven there’s no more need for talking Because we become spiritual beings and just become part of the heavenly energy.
