I can’t remember, was Bessie in her stall and did Forrest mention something about Cats in that story?

“One cold morning when Bessie was further in the barn, over near her stall (Stahl??), I thought it would be all right to just tie her tail to one of the legs on my milking stool.”
So, IMO, Forrest is tying the tail of Bessie (BC) to a specific geographic area

In the spirit of Forrest being like a 14 year old boy....
A group of cats is known as a clowder or a cluster. So if all the cats had milk sprayed into them and went away satisfied, this could be a reference to a cluster****. Given that Bessie is short for Elizabeth it could also be a royal cluster****.

Who milked Bessie while Forrest was in Yellowstone? Where did Bessie go? Did Bessie ride along in the car?

Edgewater that’s a good one. Here is what I was thinking: The TAILWATERS of BC are the creeks that you will drive past Stahl Creek is one Cat Creek is another Foundation Creek (where the “Put In” for whitewater kayaking is located) - below the home (foundation) of Brown (Kootenay) = below the home = Foundation Creek (of Kootenay “Brown” NF) Grave Creek (is NPFTM) Williams Creek Divide Creek Therriault Lakes (pronounced Terry Halt) Frozen Lake (waters high) These are the TAILWATERS of BC flic.kr/p/2jeEZLhflic.kr/p/2jeEVUQMy French Canadian husband says, in Therriault, the L and T are silent—unless there is some alternate local pronunciation

I think the photo of them w/ Bessie relates to a 4H project. You really think they had a "barn" on their little city lot? How can you pasture a milk cow on a 1/2 acre lot? Not even sure they had a garage or carport even. Could be some play on the term MILK COW, a subject in one of Merle Haggard's songs
Fenn tells us she was a Guernsey calf, which I am sure generated a lot of interest in Guernsey Wyoming. There was a CCC camp there.
