Blenheim Palace maybe? 

the building with the triangle on top (similar to the pantheon) matches the palace

the eye is very similar to the eyes painted in the archway of the palace

i think the Egyptian woman represents the sphinx that the duchess had made of herself in the gardens

and i have a feeling there is fleur-de-lys on top of the wrought iron gates

I don't think this one is at the Palace, one or two others might be but not this one based on the poem. I spent a long time trying to make it work at the palace before seeing more about other town's history.

Any thoughts on silvery threads light darkening lanes? It seems to me that this would get us to the area.
