Rather than post a lengthy solve, I'd like to share a thought about what kept me coming back to this hunt, despite the hours of headaches. Despite the inability to make anything stick like I did in other hunts. In the end, the answer is clear. It was the Stockwell's nearly nonexistent engagement with the crowd. They basically put it out there and believed there was enough there to be solved. In a post-Fenn era where people have normalized the entitlement of hints and clues, the Stockwell's made you rely on your own wits and creativity, giving birth to the overwhelming amounts of theories for 13 years. I started this hunt in 2017. Some of you put me to shame, sticking this out from its inception in 2007. So at the end of all things, I first raise my glass to you all, the veterans, the ones there from the beginning who stuck it out till the end. You deserve a medal for your tenacity. And to the Stockwell's, Bravo! I hope all future hunt authors follow your etiquette in keeping things quiet, fair, and honest. Its what this hobby needs now more than ever. Thanks for the memories. This was my first hunt. For the rest of you proud lot, see you out on the field......

I do not, however, agree that the Stockwells stuck to their rules of keeping things quiet, fair, and honest. They did not respond to multiple messages sent by many people via their website under 'contact us'. Those messages for the most part, went completely ignored. They did, however, communicate with a handful of people who tracked them down via work or personal emails, giving them information that could have (although in the end, did not) help them. True, they did not give outright clues, but they apparently consistently would tell people their guesses were wrong, giving those people the edge of ruling out locations while the rest of us were left working on ruled out locations forever. I don't call that fair or honest. They went against their own set of rules.
That said, I have enjoyed working on the hunt and look forward to the solution. And if they put out another book, I will probably buy it, but I do think they should either have one site where they share clues or comments, or stay completely silent and not respond to only a handful of people.

Yeah, I was always wondering if these people were just making stuff up or if it was real. It made no sense, supposedly Pel was keeping silent on it and didn't want to give any unfair advantages, and then I guess was giving people answers occasionally based on...whim? Even now, why is Pel replying to some people about the status of the hunt and such? Either keep your mouth shut or post it on the site.

Whether or not we are satisfied with the solution, I think we can all agree that we had fun with this hunt. Many of us had a few MDI adventures and made some great memories exploring the island. Now it's over and no one won the $10,000. It would have been nice to see someone win, but the challenge kept us working on methods and solutions for years, constantly coming up with new ideas. We've been entertained, shared ideas, had discussions and made some friends. Frustrations aside, I think it was worth it.

Not super relevant but kind of funny and fitting. Trash day is tomorrow for my place and I threw out all of my Fandango notes today. Just on plain white computer paper, but unfortunately the notes were right on top and it was overflowing. Well I just found out that all the notes went flying across the condo complex I live in.
I tried to gather them all but I can’t imagine what people would think seeing all those random pieces of information and failed solutions that didn’t mean anything ...

Thank you thedawailey for putting everything into the right context.

I feel this hunt suggests that a preferable way to do a small to medium sized treasure hunt is to not have an end date after a huge amount of time but to drop clues, however small, periodically (say once a year at the VERY least) until the thing is found. I think this is way too long and way too hard for 10k, regardless of the less tangible things gained. I get that the creator would have a hard time knowing it was that hard at the onset, but not after a whole year, let alone 13 years.
