Very well written and what an insightful way of looking at Forrest's thought process. Interesting to also think about Forrest's view on a college education in relation to literature and what is expected to be 'good literature' by schools.
"Life should be an illustrated search for hidden treasures, and not just a guided tour. f" The above quote reminds me of "Imagination is more important than knowledge" which you also mentioned in your post. Really good connections!

Well writtem.
I agree with some of it.
I will add that the chapter with JC Fremont kind of stands out because Forrest questions us when he asks (paraphrasing) "Why did he do that?" in the book. The Robert Redford one is not as easy to spot unless you read the book or seen the movie.
For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Great Gatsby would probably be terrible reads for the average RedNeck. I think it would be similar to handing a book on Calculus to someone who has not even studied Algebra.
But the western fur trappers, the outlaws, famous Indians, people are more likely to know that. I do not think he made things complicated, but certainly it will require topics in the book to be researched at least for accuracy (or looking up word meanings). Oh yeah, and I also agree about Catcher, he is almost telling you to read it before reading his book (because he says he added to it).
Note: What I have realized over the years is that the Scrap Books, Weekly Words, Q&A and other stuff is interesting, but it leads to more rabbit holes and takes you further from the treasure. My new theory (well except for the poem cracking stuff that is fun), if it doesn't originate in TTOTC it is not worth the research time.

Two "bad" books and one good one. One of the "bad" books presented as the other. Braids, which have three bunches of hair interwoven to create the end result.
This is my "two false treasure rooms" that I've mentioned several times. There's meaning to the above.

Anyone know F. Scott Fitgerald's real full name? You might want to... his full name. Seems his parents were fans of someone else whose name is relevant...

A funny (pages) tie-in to Important Literature. Did anyone catch the comic "Pearls Before Swine" last Thursday? Read the second panel: www.gocomics.com/pearlsbeforeswine/2019/02/28I wonder if Stephan Pastis is a Fenn searcher? Seems pretty coincidental that he called out those two books.

I'm tempted to email Pastis just to see what he says... Do it! Sounds like fun. What harm would come of it?

What catches my eye is his wife Zelda and how he referred to he as a Flapper. The chapter - Blue Jeans and Hush Puppies Again - ff talks about his little girls and how they were becoming more and more ambitious for him.

The way he describes Zelda reminds me of his description of Mz. Fashion Maven and Georgia O'Keeffe(the world's first Supermodel). He plays it down because he doesn't want you to notice that he remembers those experiences very well. I believe he has visited those memories in his mind often enough to see it clear as the sun in the middle of midnight. I think that sly old fox of a boy who will never never never grow up enjoys your company if you are capable of embarrassing him or if you are capable of having him think a few more times about his word choice before saying this: "I’ve been criticized for the way I write and use words. I say I too much, mix verb tenses, use commas wrong, and I can’t spell. I just read through my story above about Dizzy Dean, and removed all of the commas. I feel so good I may just go get myself another Dr. Pepper. f" You just brought up that ff can't spell. Timing could not have been better. Spell - trove - replacing the V for a U and you get - troue -
