Dal recently posted some emails on his blog regarding a discussion Dal and Forrest had about the possibility of pulling the chest. This is a lot to digest but I wanted to hear what you all think. We know that Forrest did put a temporary hold on the Chase due to Covid, but does that mean that Forrest actually pulled the chest? Was it the perfect storm of negative happenings that put the final nail in the coffin of this Chase (hopefully metaphorically speaking)? https://dalneitzelblog.wordpress.com...chase-is-over/ web.archive.org/web/20200720...red-fifty-one/...and this came out the day or so before the announcement: people.com/human-interest/ma...king-treasure/(Edit: Strange - I included Dal's blog page link and I see it on my end but it's not showing up once posted. Jenny does have it on another thread however...)

I believe 100% that FF pulled the chest. The entire ending is a cover up so the family does not get sued and harassed by the crazies. They waited until FF died before Jack came out (planned). Cynthia told Dan the truth about the ending (in the book), but was later paid off by the family to keep quite. The "fighting" between Cynthia and Kpro was completely staged. I would like to see some legitimate law suits against the family just for the BS and lack of respect for the truth. All they had to do was reveal the solution, and everything would have been over.

I think there are many possible scenarios. We know that Forrest confided in Dal. We don't know who Dal told about these emails. Did someone eventually get wind of the plan to pull the chest, use blackmail to get the location out of Forrest, then swoop in and retrieve it? Did Jack then buy the location from this person? This might explain why Jack hasn't given more details on the solve - because he doesn't know the solve. It would also explain Forrest's lack of emotion and apparent shock surrounding the Find.

Hi Goldilocks, the email that Dal posted ( here) is disheartening.
Some questions:
(1) Was this the first time that Forrest nearly pulled the plug? From my recollection, Dan paints a portrait of Forrest being defiantly against ending the game (e.g. at time of deaths). (2) Forrest's draft end statement: "After consulting with several people, the decision was unanimous to stop the search." Who were these "several" people? Dal: one. Others?
These emails are dated near or at the end of Forrest's fourth quarter 2019 deluge of scrapbooks, depending on when Dal received vs. published them. That's odd. It was curious to me at the time: what's this about? These emails make me even more curious. What was his plan? Release a bunch of scrapbooks every few days for a few months and cap it with a statement that it was all for nothing? That would certainly be endearing (sarcasm).
Perhaps the flurry of scrapbook release was simply Forrest cleaning house. His back catalog. Some were certainly more contemporaneous, but many could have been written whenever. If it was cleaning house, then the idea in his email to Dal could have been planted earlier, around September 2019 when that run of scrapbooks started. If so, why then?
Dal's post is certainly fuel for conspiracy theories.

Wouldn't it be nice to get some new information that helped clear up everything instead of make it worse?

Hey, locolobo. Great to hear from you, too. I found several people . com articles on the Chase, but didnt see anything that seemed indicate that there was some thought to ending the hunt. Maybe theres another reference that we didnt find. Be well.

SB 251 was dated March 27th 2020 and the People article was dated March 26th 2020. The press release of the death was March 22nd 2020. That death could've been a contributing factor that pushed Forrest to end the Chase prematurely.

I believe that Forrest had the chest pulled . . . for several reasons. 1. He knew that the poem had been correctly solved, and didn't want that solver to benefit from it, because that solver wasn't Fenn's ideal finder. 2. Too many crazies were harassing the Fenn family. 3. Too many people -- not smart enough to survive a hunt -- had died while on search trips. 4. Covid became too risky, and Forrest wanted people to stay home instead of catching it on search trips. 5. Forrest knew he would not live much longer, and didn't want the hunt to actively outlive him. He may have been tired of the whole thing.
