Thank you FHH for such a great adventure!! We worked on the puzzle through the afternoon and felt pretty sure we knew where we needed to be. It was going to be about a 5-6 hour drive each way, so we hopped in the car, knowing this was going to be a nighttime hunt for us. I've learned that from other hunts--when ya know you just gotta go! On arrival (after passing some very large dinosaurs), the retro Sinclair gas station was all lit up, so we didn't even need flashlights!! The biggest hurdle was clearing out more than a few juicy spiders 🕷 so we could search the pumps. It was an exhilarating moment when my hand ran across the key tucked under one of the pump's screws on top. This hunt was packed with some really cool history and a summer nighttime adventure that we'll always remember! Thank you for your gift!! Nostalgic note: Kim remembers playing on Dino as a child. Many of the Sinclair gas stations had a fiberglass reproduction of their green dinosaur logo on their properties for the kids. Thanks for the story, stercox!
You are right, when you know, you gotta go! I'm glad you had fun and that the key was still there. I put it there a couple of months ago when I was on a road trip myself to visit my husband who was hiking the Appalachian Trail in VA. I knew if I was traveling, I had to find a place to hide a proxy item (never pass up an opportunity!). I came across White Post and there was so much history there - not to mention Dinosaur Land! It didn't make it into the hunt, but also nearby is Patsy Cline's grave. Willa Cather, George Washington, Patsy Cline, and a kitschy roadside attraction - that's a lot of history for a place named after a post in the middle of the road! Glad you didn't hit it in the dark after such a long drive :-)
Kudos on solving it so quickly, and double kudos for making that drive! Wow.

It's so cool to see the gas station at night all lit up. I also think it's funny that the lantern on top of the post is not lit up. Might explain why it gets hit every now and then! And thanks for the image of what the post looked like years ago :-)
Thanks for sharing your adventure, stercox!

I am not making the solution visible here in case there is anyone who wants to keep working on the puzzle, but here is a link to the PDF of the solution:
Fun to match up your clues to the image. You are so clever!
