While I agree with your ending, I disagree with your method to get there. Rather than mire through the weeds of my solution, I will bolster my reasoning for my opinion on the burial spot. Douglas MacArthur is mentioned in print in the book and also there are similarities to the Pentagorian figure. the cane depicted in the image when turned upside down could depict a pipe similar to the one DMA used (Also if you look closely there looks like smoke tendrils coming out of it. the flower in the image has a 5 pointed star in the middle of it the millstone has a black triangle in the middle…that would be the Greek letter that is ON the statue of DMA formed by the angle of his arm to his body…a delta the arm of the cloak on the image is similarly bunched up as is the statues if you stand at the spot where the former statue was in MacArthur park, and look toward City Hall (I believe it’s west) you can see the same outline as depicted in the image….ALSO that shows that the curious object on the right edge of the painting would be the flag on the flagpole that you see from that spot i have much more for this…

step on nature = get on oak leaf trail Again. Oak Leaf Trail was 76 Bike Trail then (76, bicentennial, grand 200). The trail's name-change to Oak Leaf was in 1996. tinyurl.com/5n8auj2h

Although this manhole cover is for NYC , maybe there was or is something similar for Milwaukee. ” step on nature cast in copper” leaf. What was the name of the trail prior to 1976?

Manholes are not made of copper. They wouldn't last long! No need to scramble up verse lines and walk 5+ miles on a twisted route to the target. Simple interpretation of lines work perfectly. Start on E. Kenwood @ Mitchell Hall down to Marietta. Enter the park or step on the grass (step on nature). Walk along Lincoln (cast in copper). Go up the 92 steps AFTER walking up the 76 bike trail. Makes perfect sense. BTW similar to NYC and Boston the zip code of adjacent area (53212) is present in the flower:

Certainly, most manhole covers are cast iron but some special requests can be coated with bronze ( 88% copper 12% tin) by some manufacturers, probably those not subject to heavy vehicular traffic. In 1982 the Lincoln cent composition changed to a clad version with it having a copper coating over a zinc 97.5% copper 2.5% core. I guess you could call that a copper leaf coating but this is cutting it close seeing that the book was published in 1982 Im starting to think that the burial site is by the #5 picnic sign. Is the #5 post set in concrete? Has the post been relocated over the years? Has the picnic site moved from the grove of trees just west of the current site Or is the casque by the road drainage grate at the top of Ravine road? A few possibilities.

1st 7 lines of the verse gets you to this corner where Kenwood splits to Kenwood and Lincoln (view from 2007): goo.gl/maps/VHEA7cL6fk9rJLUY8Notice there is no side-walk so you have to step on the grass to walk along Lincoln. Step on nature... Cast in copper; IMO should be read as two separate hints, grass and Lincoln. Paintings and verses where mostly done by 1981 (if not all) when pennies were copper.

That would make sense if it weren’t for the Japanese hints. Kenwood was an audio manufacturer. Why emphasize D.R.U.M? Then look for a name close by in a large dictionary. There you find Drummond. Why give “a leaf” as a hint for “ walk on nature, cast in copper”if your assumption is grass. I’m thinking he may have been talking about the bronze maple leaves that were set in some of the sidewalks in Montreal. Maybe? That proud tall 5th might be the Montreal ,Mount Stephens Club ,a tie into “Canadian Club “ a proud Canadian 5th of whiskey , maybe?
There is the possibility that “step on nature” and the Japanese clue “ leaf”, is referring to the Linnwood water treatment plant on Lincoln Dr. ( cast in copper). There is actually a Linwood tree ( one less letter “n” in the spelling). Regardless , most think the painting fits Milwaukees Lake park and logically looking at the painting the casque should be somewhere around the top end of Ravine Drive.

Only hint I will provide now... the number of "steps" have nothing to do with physical or actual steps/stairs. The numbers represent something else.
Following the verses and images in the painting, I was led to this site which matches the painting. Far too long, people have been focused on the incorrect location in Milwaukee.
BTW, as for the Japanese hint about drum or a word similar? Look up durum. That's your starting point.
