. I am unable to find any examples of an opal that has a consistent border color all the way around, understanding that the opals are cut to shape the seems highly unusual. I am referring to the opal in the word “(o)f. To me The brown perimeter looks more like a curved landscape in the desert. If anyone has seen an opal with a solid color on the perimeter please post a link. Also in the same opal in the center orange area appears an X.

Having scanned through all the comments, both here and under Niamo Speck's YouTube video, no one has mentioned that the opals pictured are not just opals -- they're fire opals. That specification leads to a better fit with the "Part Of the New World" title, since fire opals are only found in the New World (mostly Mexico, but some in Oregon and British Columbia).

I'm actually mistaken on the opal variety -- it's a different type (not fire), but easily found with a little Google searching.

Is it still connected with the New World? Not exclusively. They *are* found in the U.S., but also in other parts of the world.

If I remember correctly, we do not know what the 'treasure' will be, but it has been said it will be worth our while. For this reason I had considered the 'treasure' could be the opals, and may not play into the solution?
Or if they do offer a hint, maybe it is within the fact that Opals are the birthstones of October? Which might hint to Columbus Day (in October)- and celebrates the discovery of the New World.

. The only authors comments that I could find at the puzzle entry level are in the youtube video comments. I think the words used were “worth it” and something like “I collect precious things. Time to divvy” ... those could be interesting phrases with hidden meaning... or not 😚
A rare opal can be worth $thousands per carat.

Hi Jenny -- I was thinking the same thing about opals: October birthstone. Coupled with the skull, it made me think of Halloween or Day of the Dead. And *that* made me think of New Orleans (second biggest day of the year in New Orleans, after Mardi Gras), and that is certainly in a "southern U.S. state". The crescent moon shape in the first 6 would also fit in with New Orleans -- the Crescent City.

For me...this is singly THE most difficult to tie into something relevant to what I feel the hints lead to, the "Opals"...I can theorize and play with rest of the "hints" but those "opals" are a tough thread into of the needle.

Yup, agreed. Three opals replacing three letters just isn't enough to go on.
I predict this is one of those hunts that will remain unsolved for decades, especially without any hint from the creator. Someone will probably stumble upon the treasure accidentally.
