I don't have much for this chapter. It is from the perspective of a boy. It takes place on a Saturday afternoon in the summer.
Location is likely the "tri-state peninsula" which could be the DelMarVa peninsula. It might be a dairy farm. It is near area for farming and duck hunting.
The timeframe may be a period before televisions. Alternatively, this could be an Amish family, which could explain all the men gathered and cousins and uncles.
There is mention of weddings, wakes, and christenings there. It might not be near or they may not conduct such ceremonies at a church.
Red and pink mentioned, which calls back to roses and carnations of chpts 1 and 2.
For whatever reason, the "gray gypsy wood" caught my eye.

I noticed the word porch is used 18 times in this chapter. Dog or dogs also occurs 18 times if my count is correct.
I'm starting to notice repeating words in other chapters - path, party, bulbs

I think "porch" could mean either street corner or house of ill repute.
Someone was always coming or going. Some would pay top dollar.

"Porch" is used 18 times in this chapter (plus one more time at the end in "The Bow").
"Dog" or "dogs" is used 19 times, not counting the title on the first page (p. 28) or the headers on pages 30, 32, and 34. Breakdown by page: p. 30 - 4 p. 31 - 2 p. 32 - 2 p. 33 - 3 p. 34 - 5 p. 35 - 3
"Dog" isn't used anywhere else in the book.
