The Masquerade Tribute Hunt is a Charity Event. All proceeds are given to worthwhile charities. The charities of the second annual Masquerade Tribute are the same as 2021, with the addition of TheSamFund.org. David Cohen, one of the Contributors for the 2022 event suggested this charity for cancer survivors. I'm sure we all know someone who has struggled with this illness. This event offers another way to help. But instead of replacing one of the charities, it was decided to just add TheSamFund. All proceeds will be equally split between the four.
So for 2022 the Charitable Organizations we are giving to are:
St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
The Humane Society
Organization of Autism Research
TheSamFund
Below is a little more about them (with links to learn more):
ST. JUDE’S CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

ORGANIZATION FOR AUTISM RESEARCH
OAR’S MISSION IS TO APPLY RESEARCH TO THE CHALLENGES OF AUTISM.
We strive to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers. The mission of “applying” research to answer questions of daily concern to those living with autism defines our goals and program objectives and shapes our budget.
In addition to funding research, our mission includes the requirements to:
• Disseminate new and useful information to as many members of the autism community as possible, and
• Direct all research and programs initiatives toward enhancing the quality of life for individuals with autism.
If you are wondering what we mean by applied research, we define it as research that directly impacts the day-to-day quality of life of learners with autism. It entails the systematic investigation of variables associated with positive outcomes in such areas as education, communication, self-care, social skills, employment, behavior, and adult and community living. In this context, it extends to issues related to family support, the efficacy of service delivery systems, and demographic analyses of the autism community.
In simplest terms, applied autism research is “practical research that examines issues and challenges that children and adults with autism and their families face everyday.”

THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES
We fight the big fights to end suffering for all animals.
Together with millions of supporters, we take on puppy mills, factory farms, the fur trade, trophy hunting, animal cosmetics testing and other cruel industries. We rescue and care for thousands of animals every year through our Animal Rescue Team’s work and other hands-on animal care services. We fight all forms of animal cruelty to achieve the vision behind our name: A humane society.
WE WORK TO:
• End the cruelest practices toward all animals.
• Care for animals in crisis.
• Build a stronger animal protection movement.
• Increase our capacity to drive global change.
Our rescue and direct care work respond to today’s cruelties; our education, legislative and policy work prevents tomorrow’s cruelties.
WE HAVE:
• The world’s greatest roster of experts in animal welfare.
• Rescuers and caregivers with years of experience.
• State directors working on animal issues around the country and passionate advocates pushing for policy change.
• Several affiliated animal sanctuaries providing direct care and medical help for animals in need.
• A global affiliate, Humane Society International, which has a presence in more than 50 countries.
Together, we’ve achieved a powerful legacy of change for animals and we’ll never stop fighting for them. Leaders in the humane movement ranked us the most effective animal organization in the country in a survey conducted by Guidestar’s Philanthropedia.
Join us. Everyone can play a role in combatting the most severe forms of cruelty and abuse.

THE SAM FUND
The Samfund provides support for young adult cancer survivors in the United States as they recover from the financial impact of cancer treatment. Through direct financial assistance and free online support and education, The Samfund helps young adults move forward towards their personal, professional, and academic goals.
I had messaged Sam, Founder and CEO of TheSamFund to ask what inspired her to create the organization and what it means to her. Her reply was:
I had cancer twice in my early 20s and was inspired to create The Samfund because I was incredibly fortunate to have all the support I needed during and after my years of cancer treatment, and quickly realized how much different my story would have turned out without my friends and family helping me. One of the defining moments, I think, was receiving a bill in the mail for $275,000 in 2003 after my bone marrow transplant; it took my mom (an oncology nurse practitioner) two years of fighting our insurance company to get it dismissed. Without her, I would have been bankrupt before I hit 25.
I'm grateful to be able to help young adults who are struggling to move forward after treatment because so many people helped me. To date, we've awarded over $3 million in grants and shared the insight we've gained to help inform policy change and collaborate with others in the cancer community who are trying to make things better for young adults and all patients. While it's frustrating to see the same (or worse) challenges exist 20+ years after my own treatment, that also serves as my motivation to continue advocating and paying it forward.
