The way I read it ,the location for the final dig spot is 5 steps towards the pitcher mound from the home plate.
First off let me explain my colour theory when it comes to the colour black or white or blue or green or brown .
Colours in art convey different meanings. It could just be the colour of the object but….
Black is usually associated with death/ the end of something( like the end of the treasure hunt) is close at hand , mourning a loss as well as night/ dread. it could just be a shadow of something or something that use to be there ( train whistle in Herman park) etc. something opposite to that is White, which could be something 1st/ recent/new/ bright / virgin/etc. In NOLA, Armstrong park was a new refurbished park when BP chose it. Hence the white face of the Louis Armstrong mask. White could also be in name like White Point garden in Charleston.
If the object is surrounded by blue ,then the blue is either sky/ water or something that has the name that pertains to sky or water like lake park drive in Milwaukee.
Now let’s get back to Boston and look for the black.
You see black surrounding the home plate on the sleeve, the nose is black (I call it a home plate as well), the hair ( JJP said it represents the baseball diamond),the nose in relation to the hair kinda makes it a pitcher mound, black perch( polo club for Puopolo), that the bird is on , the black individual on the knuckle ball hand walking to a mound.
If you find the centre of the painting you see it lands just below the nose . So it’s close to home plate.
Look at the fairy, she is catching a fly ball ( far out in the field). To achieve that you must be facing the pitcher.
When you draw a line on the painting from the lower left to the upper right you cross the home plate , the pitcher hand ,the pitcher mound then the centre of the painting then the outer edge of the baseball diamond ( the girls hair) then the water ( the blue port hole). The blue could also represent some sky since fly balls arc high up in the air.
Green would be for something growing , fresh, youthful, Irish, money etc. as well as just something that’s painted green or has a name like green acres.
Brown would be earth , tree trunks , mud, a name , time of day, think of all the different ways that colour can represent an object. Brown might just the colour of the object.
Next think size of the object in the painting and the relationship of one object to the other. Is it north of or above, Is it to the left or east of are they close together , does it overlap Etc.
I don’t think there is any good reason to put a hand with a knuckle ball grip in the painting (does a knuckle ball pitch produce more fly balls?) unless it pertains to the pitcher which is where you take 5 steps in his direction. Your facing the water and your back is to the stairs .
Remember what BP’s daughter said. From the treasure ground you can see everything in the painting.
The other possibility for the location is 5 steps towards the USS Constitution from home plate.
