The first few submissions have begun to trickle in!Reminder: Armchair solutions will be verified once the hunt has ended; we are unable to confirm or deny the accuracy of a submission before the Over The Moon treasure cache has been claimed. Once the cache has been claimed, the first hunter to have previously submitted a precise solution will receive the Armchair Bonus; if no such submission exists, the bonus will go to the finder of the cache. In the unlikely event that the cache has not been claimed by the end of the Masquerade Tribute (12/31/22), the first hunter to have previously submitted a precise solution will receive the Armchair Bonus and the grand prize; if no such submission exists, the hunter with the closest, most accurate solution (as judged by the hunt's creators) will receive both prizes.Best of luck, hunters!–Johannes Just curious, what's the reason behind not announcing that you've received a correct submission?

Just curious, what's the reason behind not announcing that you've received a correct submission? my guess would be, that people could submit multiple solves until one is verified and send someone (or themselves) to get it? But they could announce they have a correct submission without giving the person's name. Then someone wouldn't know if theirs was correct or not. But it would stop people from spending a lot if time trying to solve something they have no chance of winning because it has already been solved (assuming they can't go BOTG of course.)

It really doesn't make a difference whether they announce they have a winning submission or not. Either way, you still have a chance to be the first to go BOTG, even if someone else has sent in the right answer. That person doesn't know they have the right answer either until they actually go BOTG and claim the cache. Just because you've solved the armchair part, doesn't mean someone else can't beat you to the hidden cache.
In the original Maquerade, before computers and instant messaging, you didn't know what other people were doing!

Right, but as soon as someone submitted the correct answer for Masquerade, it was announced. They didn't let people continue working on the hunt even though it had been solved.
This situation is a little different because there can be two separate winners: an armchair winner and a BOTG winner. They can be the same person and they have the same solution, but they are really two different things. I think given the current situation in the world, there are plenty of people who are not planning on jumping on a plane even if they think they have the correct solution. So knowing that *someone* submitted a correct email solution would close Part A (email) of the hunt for people but leave Part B (botg) still going.
Knowing that there was a correct solution for Part A, but not knowing if it was your submission or not, does not affect Part B in the slightest. But it does stop people from spending time trying to solve Part A when it has already been solved.

Just curious, what's the reason behind not announcing that you've received a correct submission? We will confirm hunters' armchair solutions once the cache has been claimed and the hunt has ended — at that point, submissions will be verified in the order they were originally received.Best of luck, hunters! –Johannes

With all due respect Johannes, but that is not really an answer to susb8383's question, now is it? My apologies.
To clarify: While we will check the inbox associated with armchair submissions (to see when those submissions have been received), we will not read their actual contents until the hunt has ended (i.e. when the cache has been claimed); at that point we will confirm armchair solutions in the order they were received.
In other words: We won't know for sure whether a correct armchair solution was submitted—or by whom—until we verify submissions at the end of the hunt.

You're saying that you don't announce that a correct answer has been received, because you simply wouldn't know as you won't read the answers until after the BOTG part has ended.
I think susb8383 wonders (as do I) why you're waiting to read the submissions until after the hunt?

I see; my apologies again.
Confirming and/or denying armchair solutions (to any degree, at any time before hunt's end) could potentially compromise the integrity of the primary, boots-on-the-ground component of the hunt; our goal in leaving armchair submissions unread until hunt's end is to maintain that integrity—by keeping the box "sealed" until the grand prize is claimed... then awarding the bonus prize to the first submitter of a correct solution.
Best of luck, hunters! –Johannes
