For many years the status of The Golden Apple Tale was unknown. However, George Ward, along with his team, had a major breakthrough= and with the help of a few others, they were able to track down the author, and confirm the Golden Apple has never been claimed, and as far as the author knows, remains out there- somewhere near GRAND RAPIDS.
Please get the full details in the video here:

This is cool. One of my crazier theories put me near Grand Rapids. I will have to look back into that one

30:34 "he said that it's still out there — the golden apple is.. he never went out to retrieve it — it's still out there and he passes it on a pretty regular basis. He said it's not too far away, you know, he didn't go very far, he said, to hide it. So it's within the city of Grand Rapids, basically. I mean, you don't have to go very far, you're probably not going outside the city of Grand Rapids, city limits."
It's not clear to me how much of that is a direct quotation and how much is the interviewer making assumptions. Did the author say anything about the city limits? Did the author even say anything about Grand Rapids?
"Not too far away" has a huge range of meanings, depending on the speaker. It could mean "within a few blocks" or "within a few neighboring states." "Passes it on a pretty regular basis" has that same kind of ambiguity. It could mean "driving around town" or it could mean "driving to visit my family in Pittsburgh a few times a year."
But if it really is in Grand Rapids — the city listed as the contact address for the author on page 3 of the book — then... wow. That's a pretty lame puzzle.

Amazing news!
I was planning to contact some people over the holidays to see if I could learn more about the author, but I guess now I won't have to.
Well done guys!

As someone who worked on this puzzle for years, I am speechless. Well done!
Still curious to know how one would know it was near Grand Rapids from only using the clues in the book. The ‘starting city’ has never been deciphered.

hahahaha My craziest idea DID involve Battlestar Galactica and was connected to the actress Laurette Spang who played Cassiopeia. She was from Ann Arbor.
Actually, after checking out some papers, I DID NOT have Grand Rapids as one of my spots.

They also have a “Big Apple” sculpture that’s red and has been there since 1973..

Hey George, Martin or anyone else in the know...3 months later, how about an update? Is the all-star team hot on the trail or back bogged down like the rest of us?
Based on the obtaining a Foreword for his tribute book, Martin has had additional contact with Cam. Did Cam find copies of the original books? Did he clarify/confirm the apple being in Grand Rapids city limits (see people's concerns in this thread)?
Hope someone can speak up!

It's frustrating that we haven't heard back from Martin, but he doesn't seem to be active on MysteriousWritings anymore. (His profile says he hasn't been online since June of 2022.)
Does anyone have a way to contact him? I'd love to get a clarification on what Cam actually said about the location. When I listen to Martin describe the meeting it sounds (to me) like Cam only said something about "not far away," which could include all the neighboring states. It would be really useful to know whether the "Grand Rapids city limits" thing is just Martin's interpretation.
