Good work diceycat.
If you will look at the center of the gate in the first post of this thread you will see the tiny word "key" with an arrow to the left pointing at 2 w's.
Be sure to eat and drink while being sucked into this puzzle.

Sorry but can’t seem to find that word “key”on the gate. Can you post a pic pointing to it. Thanks I work a puzzle as far as I can until some new relevant information surfaces.
The Zeeland rest stop is close to 11 miles away ( the way the crow flies), from let’s say the Indian mounds drive area in Grand Rapids. That Fruitport rest stop is about 24 miles away, too far away to fit the storyline.

Zeeland Rest Area is only available to northbound traffic headed toward Grand Rapids. If we're measuring distance from Grand Rapids, it would seem like we'd want a rest stop for cars going in the other direction. Fruitport Rest Area on I-96 might be a better option because it's for outbound traffic from GR, it's about the right distance away, and — drumroll, please — it exits the freeway at Apple Drive. Look at goldhunter's post Is that an actual "L" in the tree? . About midway between his 'L' and the chief's sleeve, I see a windsock blowing left on a pole. Take your 1982 atlas and put the 'L' on the capital marker (a star for my atlas) at Lansing and the base of the windsock pole on the airport at Battle Creek. Then, inside the chief's apple, the base of the stem points toward the Fruitport rest area. So, I guess the city would then be Coopersville. Similar to what morpheus221 said in another post, how someone would know any of tale was near Grand Rapids and to do those alignment from only using the clues in the book is beyond me. I think it is probably just fanciful coincidence. Hope it amuses you as much as it did me.

Then, to the left is a perfectly drwn arrow pointing to the two w's. vizzini...I haven't got to look at the windsock but sounds interesting.

I see what your talking about now. I circled a few things in the drawing. Arrows ,letters or numbers, possibly a shadow of a dog shaped head made by the tree ( is it a dogwood tree?).Or is it a representation of a place you take your dog out for a run?…like the rest stop. That squiggly farm house driveway could imply the section of the squiggly 196 highway. Does the “X” on the gate represent a highway interchange? Certainly looks like a nice arrow but what does it mean? Pointing down to the left at a couple of w shaped marks. Could be nothing but scratches or it could be the initials of the people that live at that farm. Its really difficult to say what is intentional and what is just pareidolia. I’m not sure how Cams mind works but he seems to be pretty straight forward with most of his clues like large letters , bold print etc. , things change over 40 years. I was thinking about those three errors in the States. The two “D”s replacing the two “T”s for the two Dakotas, North and South, and the missing “i” in Louisiana. Now do we use the three letters , ( itt) to make a suggestive word or was Cam just a bad speller? Another thing I was thinking about is the fact that the story talks about the “Sioux” and how the brave was taken back to his place of residence. Now looking at the map of Grand Rapids there is one street ( a short one with only 3 houses on it, maybe where Cam lives???), that has that “Sioux” name ( Sioux Court South West) and it is exactly 11 miles to the Zeeland rest stop and could that arrow on the gate that you mentioned be pointing in a SW direction? Some things to think about. Look at the first letters of the words that are Capitalized in the stanza (ASELTO) is it an anagram? I find it odd that sun and east would be capitalized. Why did he call it the Walrus house saloon. There was a song done by the Beatles back in 1967 called “I am the Walrus “,and was banned by the BBC radio since it had a suggestive line in it. Also there is a X-rated slang for Walrus. Lets look at the shadow cast by the tree. If we assume that the time is about 11:52 am then the shadow would be pointing towards the north . This would fit my original theory. But if we assume that the sun is just coming up from the East like the verse implies then the shadow would cast towards the west. The problem here is that the shadow is then on the wrong side pointing East. Bad art so confusing. So is this supposed to be sun setting at the farm?

Hi All.
I have always been a big fan of the “masquerade” style ending given time and date in the living room picture.
Also, letter O has a dot in the middle (symbol for the sun).
…still having a tough time with the location being in Michigan. Are there any clues that point there? The only state that seems to be highlighted is OHIO given it’s different orientation relative to the other states in the borders.

OK , more rambling and thoughts. The Story doesn’t make logical sense. It talks about the autumn in the evening let’s assume 11:52 pm when Cy and the boys are at the fire place. The Big Dipper would have to be on the horizon not Cassiopeia. Red herring? Cassiopeia would be above or north of the North Star. He spells words like, laddar dimist and Graviety which are incorrect. Also when he says “so don’t get to smart” it should read “so don’t get too smart”. The Road Atlas on the table looks like the last word is spelled “shoes” and not states. Willis Donleg said he saw several men roughing up the brave then he says two men road away. Several is not Two. The Chief “Oconomowoc” ( which means waterfall), shows up exactly 3 days later to the “dot” after GreatGrandad Willis rescues the brave but the Chief says it’s been 2 moons since the rescue. Or is the Chief stating that his son’s name is “ Two moons ago”? He raises his hand and comes in “peace”. Think Cascade ( Waterfall) Peace park as a possible location for the treasure. There is also the Cascade Dog Park close by and from aerial views 1981 it is also a possibility ( 11 miles to the east of downtown Grand Rapids Zip 49501) . The Cascade Peace park is about 11 miles away from this Zip code in a direct line. You have the words like “ Kathline ” meaning pure/ virgin, could be for untouched girl/ boy or forest “ presage” An omen or sign that something will happen. Is this a park warning sign? “ Arvin” Friend of the people. Dogs are man’s best friend “ Azar”. Fire . Was there a fire in the park at one time or do they BBQ there? What do we know about Cam from the video. He lives in a house with a driveway a motion sensor light and a beware of dog sign. Does he have a large dog? Does Cam go to a dog park? Can you bring a dog with you at the Cascade Peace park? I find it odd that he would hand someone a hinge to inspect. Does the hinge play a part in the puzzle ( like fix that gate because it needs a new hinge).Does the gate spell out a word like “CLOSE” Is the treasure close to a gate? Why so many Dog images in the trees? Dog wood tree or Dog Park. Do we extend a line from the persons eyes to another individuals hand when it says “ if your clock stops then watch someone else’s. hands are helpful “ Is this more “Masquerade “ like or do we just look at the time. Do the shadows cast play a part in the time? I still like the Zeeland rest stop but one always needs a plan B.
Map of Dog Parks in the Grand Rapids area , some are too new.

FYI, there was a rest area at Cascade. Lower right of your overhead shot where the ramp comes onto I96.

I see that rest stop that was once there in 1981. So that Cascade dog park might be possible location. Did more research on the Cascade peace park and unfortunately it was established in 2009 . So cross that one off. Back to Zeeland.

This is a more accurate view of the night sky . It happens to be in June and not April. So June the month or name may play a part. Regardless it’s definitely not an autumn view of the sky.

Here's an attempt to labels some of the stars and constellations from the book using the labels from your star map.

Another stanza I was thinking about is “Some trees have leaves And some have needles At this point in time They all look like hay stacks” Now the first two lines has me thinking about the word “ Pineapple “. The story is about apple trees and Pine trees have needles but I can’t see it make any sense how pineapple would fit into the puzzle. It just might be pine trees and leafy trees in the area and in the fall. Those last two lines talks about how they look like haystacks (a mound/ dome or rolling hills?) Do we look at the big hand in the clock at the beginning of the story and it’s pointing to the stone work. So is it a pile of stone ? Or is he eluding to something like “Hillcrest “Dog park? They do depict the park as a series of rolling hills on the sign.

Your correct! The story goes that Hillcrest was the 1st dog park in Grand Rapids in 2005. I’m sure the park was there in 1981 from what I can see ,just the dog park section was not. Maybe a lot of people still took their dogs there for a run. Then people would complain and the dog park gets built. Back in the day people would just walk their dog and let it do it’s business where ever. If it wasn’t for that knock on Cam’s door and the extra information, there are a few good clues for Sioux Falls South Dakota .One being the Queen Bee Mill. at the falls park, Cassiopeia was the queen and haystacks can look like an old time bee hive.

More thoughts that may or may not be hints. With regards to the “Place in order”. Could the objects located next to the letters be hints? Let’s look at the word PLACE. The “P” is on a mailbox door and the mailbox is on what appears to be a wood post. On some mail/ post box doors you read “US mail, approved by the postmaster general” . So could the letter “ P” stand for Post? The “L” is below what appears to be an “X” or a cross . Does this cross that extends to the horses hoof represent the location? The “A” is at the bottom or end of the page on the road. The “C” is by the shadow cast by the horses leg The “E” is at the end of the headdress or horse. So from those assumptions could one say maybe something like look for a Post by the Cross Road End Shadow Cast the End. The other two words “ in order” may infer something like…. The “I” is on the white patch side of the horse The”N” is by the corner of the barn door The “ O” is on the hill in the orchard The “R” is by the ripe apple ( dogs nose?) The “ D” is is in the dark tree top The “ E” is on the spine of a book on the shelf The “ R” is at the corner of the bar mirror I arranged the images in order. Might one assume that the images can be paired someway? The L andC are both found by the hoof of the horse , one by an angle/cross the other by a shadow cast The I and E are both at the sIdE of the horse by the headdress. The N and R are both in a corNeR, one in a doorway the other a mirror The O and R are both in the ORchard The P and E can be tied into items you read, The P could be for post/ mail and the E could be for shelf or spine or head of the book The D and A can be for DArk night. The D is near the top and A at the bottom If you connect the dots ( letters) does this represent anything like a road map, trail map or zodiac constellation or something else? The “L” location may be of interest Does one need to make an anagram from the first letters ( capitalized) of each paragraph in the story or the very first capitalized letter? Does the layout sequence of the pictures and story play a part as a clue?
