Hello, I am new here and this is my first post. Please forgive me for starting a new thread as I know that is generally poor form. Nonetheless, I would like to share my thoughts with an interpretation of the poem.
The most important clue, as has been stated, is the "Begin it where warm waters halt". Change that to warm fluids. One thing that comes to mind is amniotic fluid and birth. With that intro, let me know what you think:
As I have gone through life, I had my own dreams and secrets. I had my own adventures and collected my own treasures. Now, I can give advice on how others may live a rich life.
You begin at birth and start down the canyon of life. Life is short, but you still must make your way through. And you start at the bottom.
From there, you must be strong and work your way up. The clock is ticking and each day counts. It will not always be easy and sometimes it may seem like you can't keep your head above water.
But if you have made the right choices and found the right path in life, be thankful and humble. Do not dwell on the past or brag about the present. Just be happy and continue down your path.
I tell you all this because I have been through it myself. I had my struggles, was tired, found some answers and reached old age.
I hope you hear what I'm saying and find my advice helpful. At the end, all your efforts will be worthwhile. If you endure and stick with your dreams, you may have the same riches I have.

The chase gives many treasures. You can go with that interpretation, if you want, but the treasure we are discussing on this forum is the 10x10 bronze chest filled with gold. Unless you are calling Fenn a liar it is out there to find. It's some where in the rockies north of santa fe nm.

The point is they're paraphrasing the poem, and pointing out it's possible outlining of a tale of Fenn's life. Hi Dalby, nice post. A few have made similar comparisons, and we are compelled to follow the clues in order. One youtuber noted how Forrest conflates space and time quite often, so no reason why he shouldn't do so in the poem. He is 'almost umbilically attached' to the hidey spot!

I wouldn't call him a liar. I do, however, think that everyone agrees he is a good story teller. I sincerely hope ideas like this are wrong as it would be exciting to hear of the chest being found. Keep in mind his own writing:
"I wish I could have lived to do, the things I was attributed to" .
It is accepted that what he says or writes could have multiple interpretations. I will be glad to be proved completely wrong in this interpretation. But I am going to do another read through to look for absolutely clear statements that: The treasure is the gold and jewels. Those are real and not part of an allegory or dream sequence. The gold and jewels are what is placed in the chest. And it that filled chest that is hidden in a real location North of Santa Fe.
In other words, I just want to review his usage of "treasure", "gold", "riches", "chest", etc ... Just to check for alternative interpretations.
Yes, I'm aware a bunch of quotes can now be thrown at me but I am also aware that contradictions and partial quotes also are out there.

Many people feel there is a duality in the poem. Others call it layers.

I didn't mean to come off harsh. Welcome. On the MW website Forrest said there isn't any deeper meaning intended in the poem. He didn't put any there. Not to say people can't see stuff but it isn't intended by Forrest. I'm sure he is happy to see people like his poem but I don't think he would like it if people thought he didn't hide any gold. He did and he says he did. The featured question with forrest: mysteriouswritings.com/which-clue-featured-question-with-forrest/Other than the poem describing how to locate the Trove and one of its purposes to encourage people to get out of the house and away from electronics, is the poem designed to convey a deeper significance? Is there a subtle message you are sharing with the reader and hope they realize? ~ Seeker No Seeker, The poem is straight forward with no subterfuge in sight. Someone in an email asked me if I didn’t know where the treasure was, and could have the answer to any clue in the poem, which would I choose. I think that question is so funny and it makes me wonder how Jenny’s readers might answer it.f

Thank you for the welcome. I checked through several of the email Q&As and there are indeed instances where he clearly states that he hid, or someone could find, the treasure chest. Plus he has the means for such an undertaking. So there goes my idea that the "treasure" might mean something nontangible.
All the better because I have other ideas.
