In actual fact I believe the casque is in Quebec City and not Montreal. I think most agree that it is in Quebec but let me explain. Even though a lot may think that the leg eater dog and the so called Lat. and Longitude numbers are correct in pointing you to Montreal I think they are wrong.
First I will go through the verse.
“Lane Two Twenty Two“ - Google 222 Rue de St. Louis in Quebec City and it puts you at the edge of the Plains of Abraham Battlefield park. This is the arched gateway to the old town of Quebec City. In other forums there was talk of “St. Louis “being correct but not the city. Now I know what your thinking, there is no 222 Rue de St. Louis, well there could have been in the late 70’s but the thing is there is a lane here called Cote de la Citadelle and there is only one building on that lane that part of the park and it has the address number 2 also this lane leads to the citadel where the 22 regiment is stationed. Another possibility is that Lane is referring to Champlain ,who built the first 2 forts at Quebec City.
“ You’ll see an arc of lights” - The gateway is arched and illuminated.
Also the Hotel de la Concorde can be seen from this spot and it has a round restaurant on top that would appear as an arc of lights at night.
“Weight and roots extended , Together saved this site , Of granite walls” - It is a massive historic stone walled area. The checkerboard areas in the painting represents the stone work especially note the stonework on the cuffs representing the walls of the Joan of Arc garden.
“ Wind swept Halls ,Citadel in the night”- The Halls are the military Barracks and the Citadel is at the NE corner of the park ( the Park is on top of a hill, thus gets more windy)
“A wingless bird ascended, Born of ancient dreams of flight, Beneath the only standing member, Of a forest , To the South”- When you head South in the park you reach the Joan of Arc garden , with the Joan of Arc statue in the centre of the sunken garden. She is (standing up), on the horse and the garden area is surrounded by trees, ( forest). So Joan of Arc ( a girl or British slang , a bird) , born 1412, died 1431, ( ancient),had dreams at an early age of the Archangel Michael ( dreams of flight) and she (ascended ) to Sainthood in 1920.
“White stone closest at twelve paces from the west side , Get permission to dig out”- A pace is about 30 inches or 2 1/2 feet so in total 30 feet and you are measuring it from the Joan of Arc monument towards the steps on the west side under the flagstone that matches the negative shape made by the fingers. Now the area is under video surveillance so don’t go and try to dig it up without permission. I doubt they would give you permission to dig even if you asked nicely.
The Joan of Arc monument and gardens were constructed in recognition of Battle that took place between General Wolfe ( British ) and General Montcalm ( French) on the Plains of Abraham , ( actually on Abraham Martins farm land). This is why you see a wolf head on the horses’ leg . The leg is protruding from the rectangle in the painting because the monument is protruding from the centre of the garden .
You can see dates that incorporate 76 in the side of the monument.
Now BP seems to be doing the burial at night or late evening when people are walking their dogs. One of the hints he gave was that he hid himself in the leaves and he had to avoid the police. The garden area is decorated in the fall ( October),with everything for Halloween and more.
To me there is nothing in the verse to suggest Montreal . People grasp at balloons from the 1800s and lane bicycles to make it fit their theory but it has to be in a park and has to match solid objects that would be there for a long time. If you were at the Joan of Arc garden at night you would probably see most everything around you as described in the verse without moving a foot.
Let’s do the painting next. Some pictures of the painting shown online seem to be better than others, especially when it comes to seeing the horse in the background ( best images are at The Secret at PB works site). I think the 73 represents the main highway going into Quebec City and the so called 45 could read as SR for state road or the 5 could be combined with the 73 giving you 573 the road leading in from the opposite side. If you want Lat. and Longitude then you can pick a 46 and a 71 out of the flower. Just because Lat. and Long. was used before doesn’t mean it is always used in the puzzle, especially when you only have 2 big cities famous enough for immigration to really choose from in Quebec.
