Hello Fellow Treasure Hunters!
As you know, the Masquerade Tribute Hunt is a Charity Event. All proceeds are going to be donated to worthwhile charities. It was a difficult task to choose just one charity, so we decided to pick three. We wanted to give you a quick introduction to those that we picked so that you can see that your donations are going to some great causes.
St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital is a popular charity to donate to among the treasure hunting community. Several groups have chosen to donate to St. Jude’s in the past, and we decided that we would continue with that tradition.
It seems that almost everyone knows someone with Autism. In fact, there are many fellow treasure hunters in our community who have children with Autism. We decided to show them our support, and include the Organization for Autism Research as one of the charities for this event.
When word spread that we were creating a charity treasure hunt, several people approached us and specifically requested an animal charity. And the timing couldn’t be better, because COVID-19 has adversely affected animals too. With owners out of work, pets can no longer be cared for. Shelters are over-crowded. Donations to animal organizations are needed now, more than ever. And the Humane Society of the United States doesn’t just help pets, but all animals.
Listed below are the MISSION STATEMENTS from all of these charity organizations, copied and pasted directly from their websites. Links to the websites are included too. We hope you will agree; that we have picked three very worthwhile organizations.

ST. JUDE’S CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

ORGANIZATION FOR AUTISM RESEARCH
OAR’S MISSION IS TO APPLY RESEARCH TO THE CHALLENGES OF AUTISM.
We strive to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers. The mission of “applying” research to answer questions of daily concern to those living with autism defines our goals and program objectives and shapes our budget.
In addition to funding research, our mission includes the requirements to:
• Disseminate new and useful information to as many members of the autism community as possible, and
• Direct all research and programs initiatives toward enhancing the quality of life for individuals with autism.
If you are wondering what we mean by applied research, we define it as research that directly impacts the day-to-day quality of life of learners with autism. It entails the systematic investigation of variables associated with positive outcomes in such areas as education, communication, self-care, social skills, employment, behavior, and adult and community living. In this context, it extends to issues related to family support, the efficacy of service delivery systems, and demographic analyses of the autism community.
In simplest terms, applied autism research is “practical research that examines issues and challenges that children and adults with autism and their families face everyday.”

THE HUMAN SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES
We fight the big fights to end suffering for all animals.
Together with millions of supporters, we take on puppy mills, factory farms, the fur trade, trophy hunting, animal cosmetics testing and other cruel industries. We rescue and care for thousands of animals every year through our Animal Rescue Team’s work and other hands-on animal care services. We fight all forms of animal cruelty to achieve the vision behind our name: A humane society.
WE WORK TO:
• End the cruelest practices toward all animals.
• Care for animals in crisis.
• Build a stronger animal protection movement.
• Increase our capacity to drive global change.
Our rescue and direct care work respond to today’s cruelties; our education, legislative and policy work prevents tomorrow’s cruelties.
WE HAVE:
• The world’s greatest roster of experts in animal welfare.
• Rescuers and caregivers with years of experience.
• State directors working on animal issues around the country and passionate advocates pushing for policy change.
• Several affiliated animal sanctuaries providing direct care and medical help for animals in need.
• A global affiliate, Humane Society International, which has a presence in more than 50 countries.
Together, we’ve achieved a powerful legacy of change for animals and we’ll never stop fighting for them. Leaders in the humane movement ranked us the most effective animal organization in the country in a survey conducted by Guidestar’s Philanthropedia.
Join us. Everyone can play a role in combatting the most severe forms of cruelty and abuse.
