Welcome to my new hunt - alternately known as Things That Do Not Belong and Some of These Things Are Not Like The Others (I couldn't decide on a title!)
PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING THE HUNT
Instructions to THINGS THAT DO NOT BELONG
1. This is a fully armchair hunt. No travel is required.
2. Winners must have a US address.*
3. A winning submission will include identifying all of the images and stating why each either belongs together or does not belong. If you have them all right, a code will provide validation of your answers.
4. Please send your answers to me via messaging here on MW.
5. When you submit your answers, I will tell you how many are correct, but not which ones.
6. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or if you feel there is an error.
7. Enjoy the hunt and good luck!
*An alternative prize is available to the first non-US player to submit the correct solution. The original prize(s) will remain available to those with a US address. The prize for the non-US player will be available as long as the hunt remains open.

To the right of the candy floss machine appears to be an oscillograph, ancestor of today's oscilloscope. Is the difference "humans in picture" vs. "no humans in picture"?

No, those are not the categories. That is an early ecg machine, but technically the same thing - displaying electrical currents. |

TU, I had no idea they made EKG machines that long ago. I am afraid to suggest that the distinction is "Things you can eat" vs. "Things you can't eat". After all. this is a family-oriented website.
But seriously folks, how about "Things invented in the United States".

TU, I had no idea they made EKG machines that long ago. I am afraid to suggest that the distinction is "Things you can eat" vs. "Things you can't eat". After all. this is a family-oriented website. My hunts are safe for all ages - although they do sometimes deal with murders or other crimes. But no, those are not categories for this hunt. |

A few of the items may have 'layers' and require a little more research to find out how they connect to the category I am looking for.
Also, a reminder that there is just one category. An image either 'belongs' in this category, or it 'does not belong'. The ones that do not belong may have nothing to do with each other - they simply do not belong in the category.

Just to clarify - you do not need to solve the code to win. You can submit your answer without it. That is just there as a verifier - and it is not a word  .
