Hi all. I am Garry from Australia.
I discovered the Golden Owl a few weeks ago (around 1 Nov) while watching a show called Expedition Unknown. (original release 2019)
The further I go the more amazing this puzzle is, and now over 29 years uncompleted.
I am not travelling to France...would probably prefer to see the Owl donated to a museum. I would be interested in passing on what I know to someone with a similar goal, to donate to Museum.
I feel I am well along in my exploration. I have most clues worked out, well I think I do. Let's see what you guys think of the following.
The Word ETERNITY is one Max seemed to say was important. I went back and searched for the French word, and I found a poem called L'éternité. A man by the name of Arthur Rimbaud wrote this poem at 17 in 1872. The final hunt most likely starts in Charleville-Mézières probably at the Musée Arthur Rimbaud. (Or maybe at the house he was born, nearby) Drive about 3 km east of Dabo to "Chapelle St Leon" I am sure his name appears on the lookout distance markers (sentinels) on top of the hill. (8000 measures east sound familiar?)
The 4 centers may also be listed as places also. See the note below for a new thought I found a few days ago.
Note: The Archimedean spiral approached constructions by arcs of a circle, as the spiral with 4 centers; this construction becomes widespread with any number of centers. What is an Archimedean position? a reliably certain position or starting point that serves as the basis for argument or reasoning. (This certainly fits in with this location being the center of further searches.)
I am stuck on Clue 5 - 580. The names of the towns are set, but Max said in some of his Madits, that there is more in there. Use your ear. In the main answer, you change notes, but don't use your ears. The heading "WAY OF THE OPPOSITE WAY, AND VICE VERSA" suggests two reversals. You only do 1 in the main answer. Another Madit "THERE ARE SEVERAL IMPORTANT THINGS TO DISCOVER IN THE 580" There is a false lead, drawing a line around the 10 towns reveals a shape that resembles the département of Saône-et-Loire (Département 71) I have reconstructed the notes in various ways, but can't get a recognizable tune.
Finally, it is nice to be able to find an English speaking place to share ideas. I joined 2 forums and the discord channel, but them being French, I haven't said a thing!
