If you take a look at the Japanese clues at “12Treasures” you can get 4 different interpretations. They are similar but not the same. I will post here the hint for “ Lane”. Use Google translate for the two Japanese texts. Why do 3 of the translations mention town ( something that you could apply to the old town of Quebec City , no old town in Montreal), yet the Phrabbott Hint translation mentions City. Again Phrabbott says “small street” while the other translations only mention path or trail. Phrabbott translations are number 4 on the list below

Thanks , “ inmyopinion”, for the explanation . I realize that there are cultural and language differences between the Japanese and American people. It could be that BP placed those additional writings in the Japanese edition for some American treasure Hunter to eventually discover them. Maybe BP felt that the puzzle solves were not advancing as quick as he thought they would be. Anyones guess. I can’t see why BP would have to elaborate on the word “Lane” when already” Komichi” by definition means lane. Why not just say that it’s a proper noun and leave it at that , but he adds “ a mountain, a river, a town…. I think these are additional clues that would be difficult for him to disseminate any other way.

I guess then it’s open to interpretation. If one wants to ignore the Japanese translations then so be it. If you grew up in the 60s and 70s then you would know that the term “iron horse “ was used by teenagers to describe a motorcycle, even thought the term was applied to trains back in the 1800s. It seems that iron horse is also a Japanese slang for motorcycle as mentioned in the translations. We don’t know exactly what the dialogue was between the translator and BP. I look at the so called hints as BPs words in a 3rd person narrative. So do we look at those words that are in quotations only as coming out of BPs mouth? ”Fifth” and “tree” are not exactly synonymous. BP is elaborating and the so called translator thinks it a “tree.” Not some lion statue that some think. Why put those words in quotation marks unless you are quoting someone. BP is only doing snippets from the verses when explaining . I’m sure all the other lines could be elaborated on.

I guess I just don't see the point of rehashing the same old arguments and discussions. The posts are there for all to see. No need to pepper the forum with CC. It's fun to make rabbithole interpretation of the Japanese text. Iron Horse was nickname of Lou Gherig. I do beleive some verses if not all have the name of the target area encoded within i.e. NYC in the line "From One V" or Peace Form One, Tranquil in verse 1, "Wingless bird Ascended" for Mount Stephen. Chicken "hint" may refer to "Bantam" (publishing company then). Who knows maybe you could get to Bhutan somehow! Have fun, or as Spiritr may say, "Be water".

So if I move to Japan am I now allowed to use the hints? They are hints. It says so in the Japanese edition in both Japanese and in English . I don’t know how much clearer you can get.

No point in debating the issue . Good Luck debating? think I showed you more than you ever knew. It shows the idea of it easier to just believe what you want it to be, vs. actually understanding what it truly was meant to be. But good luck using your hints. You “grow callouses on your ears” (耳にたこができる: mimi ni tako ga dekiru) from hearing the same thing over and over again.
