Congratulations to Father Terry Donahue for solving the puzzle and retrieving the jar with the secret message. The message was WHY SO SIRIUS? and it was found by solving each of the three steps of the puzzle.
The first step is solving the numbers at the bottom. The numbers represent the birth and death date of three "Hanks" specifically Henry Ford, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Flagler. Incidentally, when stopping in Savannah on my return trip from hiding the jar, I learned that the term for a person's lifespan, upon which he makes his mark upon the world, is called "the dash." Hence the "dash" to the treasure
Each haiku is for one of the men as a confirmer. Henry Ford of course is associated with Detroit, and Thoreau (Thor? Oh!) with Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts. Flagler's location is tricky, but the haiku leads you to the correct place which is his Whitehall mansion in Palm Beach.
Next step you take the three locations and triangulate them, and find the center, which is a remote area southwest of Richmond Virginia. This is where the poem comes in. Using Google Maps and looking at Crewe, Virginia you'll see Richmond as the largest city. Take Patrick Henry highway (liberty's demand) northeast. The road number is 360 (full circle). The rules hint at not falling down a mine shaft, and line 4 of the poem hints at a mine. You will see Midlothian Mines Park just north on WoolRidge Road.
The final step is boots on the ground at the park. You don't have to travel far, just look for the tree in the image and the jar was right under it, covered with leaves and above ground. The rest of the poem leads to the specific spot.
I'm thrilled to see this was solved right before Hank Dog's birthday which is tomorrow!
Thanks to all who participated in this hunt. My next couple of hunts will be fully armchair and then I'll be hopefully launching my big project early next year which will be BOTG for a larger prize. Until then, good hunting!
